Window Installation

I knowingly purchased windows that were not sized for my finished wall size... when the price is right the price is right. I cannot afford to pay $100 plus on each window so as great as Peninsula Glass products may be they are way out of my range.

I have an idea of how I will be installing the windows already but I wanted to pose this question to the forum as the experience and knowledge here might get me further than my little 'ol brain would on its own 

So, is there a preferred method of window installation when the window is made for a smaller finished wall thickness? Is there a good suggested way?

Off the top of my head, the windows are made for a 3/4 inch wall or likely smaller... they are RV windows. The finished wall thickness should be about 2 and 1/2 inches.

Bjorn, I did this exact thing. Bought cheap Windows from bontragers. Here's the deal: Likely they weren't made for 3/4" walls. Those are thin walls even by Rv standards. What you can do, is order clamp rings that are the proper depth for your windows. If you don't, you'll have drama with installing them properly as I did because I didn't order clamp rings but used the ones that came with the windows. Had nasty gaps, they leaked, had to reseal them. It was drama.

Great! That is the name I was looking for, clamp rings. Any idea of where to get good cheap ones from?

My thought was actually making a small ledge around the windows and making a finished wall the correct size for the windows. Basically it would give it an in-set sort of look if you catch my drift. It would just require me to weld smaller channel iron in where the windows go and do a little extra wood framing. Might look nice...

I also just finished replacing 7 windows bought on eBay . I replaced the aluminum on outside of bus and cut new holes. I called the window manufacture and bought 2 1/4" window trim rings or clamp rings ... The manufacture sold them for 40$ each ... It did make job much easier . Good luck

I paid $50/window... I can't have a clamp ring costing as much as the window

Yes I agree and it was difficult I paid 60 for most of mine . But I wanted the finishing effect and had to buy from lippert (lci)to achieve that . I thought of trimming with wood and or metal but this was so easy . Now my time can go to other more tedious tasks . Even at 100$ per window they look awesome inside and out with no leaks.. But in the bus world whatever works for you. I'm sure yours will look great also,

Good points, I will look into what the clamps would cost for my windows and with any luck they will be a little cheaper!
