Has anyone had experience with the Even Brake system for a 4-down toad?  Any other brands?  Thanks, Jack

I started with the Even Brake system in my first coach/toad and had some problems with it releasing the toad brakes after a stop on a steep downhill traffic light. It is also bulky and a little hard to situate in the toad. I had to use a block of wood to stop it from shifting because of stiffening ribs in the floor of the toad.

I used the Roadmaster 9160 system referenced in the link above in my second coach/toad. It worked perfectly all the time, was easy to store, my wife had no problems hooking it up and the toad was easy to drive for parking and reattaching to the coach with the the air cylinder hooked up to the brake.

Initial installation of the 9160 was time consuming but not hard. I would strongly recommend getting the correct mount for the specific toad rather than use the universal mount that comes with the system.

I moved up from a Brake Buddy to the air-operated Roadmaster Brakemaster about six years ago. Big improvement. There is a bit of adapting and wiring as part of the installation, but well worth it.

I installed an Air Force One system and it works great! Easy to use and nothing to remove when unhooking other than the air hose and break away switch cable.

The Hitch Source has the best price I could find.

It's a true proportional brake system that is designed to work with the coach air. You can also see the brake application from your rear view camera as there is an LED light bar that attaches on the back of the toad's rear view mirror.

It took me several hours to install, but once it's finished, that's about all you need to do.

Check out the M&G brake.  I have 3 tow vehicles with them and think they are great.   Just hook up the tow bar, and plug in an air line and drive off.

If you have air brakes and M&G makes the unit for the towed vehicle it's the way to go I been using them for 20 + years quick and easy with no maintenance

sure ...if your vehicle (for the most part) is a 2011 or 2012 or newer...

Don, could be, but I've read of quite a few installs on older cars. I've seen as old as 2001 (vw bug) someone mentioned they had it installed in. Sounds like you'd want to have it installed professionally though.

Thanks for all the input!  While I do have an air tank and compressor on my bus, the brakes are hydraulic so several of the newer systems won't work for me.  Then there is the age thing--my toad is 57 years old and not "smart" enough to deal with the newest systems so it looks like an old Brake Buddy or Even Brake will have to do the job.  Thanks again, Jack

We have been using a Brake Buddy.  It was cheap on Craigslist.  The downside is, of course, the small nuisances of installing, removing, and storage.  On the bright side, it can work with any vehicle.  I am really not terribly concerned with how well it works since I think the bus has ample braking for itself and the toad.  I have it to make sure I am legal.

I tried the M&G unit, however it would not fit my 04 F150 without massive inner fender cutting.  So I went with the Air Force 1 unit, smooth, have over 50,000 miles with it without any issues.
