That's right I forgot about the MC12. They didn't build many of those but they were mostly for those that wanted the design of the MC9 and didn't want to switch to the 102A and 102C models yet.

Actually, the MC-12 was a special order specifically for Greyhound, but also available strictly as a prisoner transport vehicle for LE.  It was generally not available to the normal customer, but a few slipped thru the cracks.  About 1/2 the order came with 6V92TAs, the rest with S-50s.  Several of the 92s got S-50 transplants when the 2-stroke was due for overhaul.

The 12 was basically a 96A3 below the floor and a 9 upstairs, with a few other minor changed details.

The MCI 12 I speak of goes on the auction block in April,it has less than 500,000 miles total and only 80,000 miles on a new series 50  lol it is clean with no dings but man it stinks inside

So the MCI-12 would transplant right into my 9 with no mods to the craddle? If so I may be interested in that one. lol

Years ago Los Angeles Freightliner did many Grayhound conversions on 8 and 9 from the 6V-92TA to Series 50. The Series 50 was so much more efficient, one of the radiators was removed and replaced with the air to air intercooler. Some of the buses got close to 10mpg. Was about the same power as the 6V-92TA. Good Luck, TomC

what is the difference in horse power in the ser. 50 and the 6v92t

luvrbus

Depends on the setting you can get 370 hp from the 50 series same as you can get from the 6v92 but get more torque from the 50 series @ less rpms both are obsolete engines then more parts are available for 6v92 fwiw

So, the real question is, if you had to repower tomorrow with an engine of your choice in a 102c3 what would you put in it Cliff?
