How come when I reply to a topic with comments it doesn't come up with New next to it when I go back to look at it. Is my work computer blocking something when replying or am I doing something wrong. ???

This is pretty simple software.  It seems to encode something that was on your screen.  I have noticed the same thing -- my only WAIG is that it considers that you've "seen" it because it was on your screen when you posted the reply.  What gets me is that occasionally I'll reply and "New" starts me off 3 or 4 down from where I replied and if I don't scroll back, I'll miss important stuff.  But, like I said, this is not sophisticated software, but it works pretty much OK.

Steve, Bruce is correct.  This software doesn't consider your own reply to be "new" to you.  It will display new once someone else posts to it.

Bruce,  I agree that the way it decides which reply to a thread to take you to when you click new is a shortcoming in the software.  I love 98% of what the developers did in creating the SMF forum software.  It is very stable and not constantly having to patch security holes.  But the other 2% drives me nuts sometimes.  For example, the point you made about what it considers "new", and its built in search function can range from very good to virtually worthless, from one search to the next (which is why we installed the Google Site Search box.  But overall, it has served us pretty well.  I look forward to being able to get back to the upgrade of this software.  The new version resolves some of the deficiencies without losing the strengths.

Don't know much about computers beyond the "On" button and virtually nothing about software, but I agree.  Thanks for the hard work y'all put in for our benefit.
