Hi all,

I read on this board about DD LH and RH engine rotation. I have a MC5A.  As I look into the engine compartment and look at the engine rcrank pulley (motor running)...is this the correct orientation to ID the rotation?

Thank you

No rotation is looking from the rear

Looking at the front of the engine?  As compared to the flywheel end?

Only angle drive GM,Flxibles and probably some others used Left Hand engines. In buses, that is.

Thank you.  So you look at the flywheel end and if the engine runs in a clockwise direction, then it would be a right hand turning engine.  One only looks at the rear, not the front.

FolkBus;  My first Crown Supercoach ride was way back in 1968.  Bus number 30, a 1956 Crown with a 220 Hall Scott of unknown size. Spicer 5 speed manual.  Would go about 56 at 2100 rpm. Starting gear was first and a little bit short. A whopping 3 miles per gallon.  10x20 tube tires on split rims.  Long ago and far away.  Kern High School District in central CA. :)

Right hand rotation is called that since the first cars had crank only starting. Since more people are right handed, the engines rotate clockwise when facing it making hand cranking easy. Good Luck, TomC

That's also why the handles on coffee cups are on the right hand side.

That is like the guy shingling house siding everyone now and then he would throw a nail away. The other guy asked him why he was doing that. He stated that they were pointing the wrong way and they were for the other side of the house.
