Until the slowness of the board is taken care of I will not be visiting, It has gotten very bad and is only getting worse. This is the only site I go to that my computer times out and I have to hit the stop button and click on the item I want again and again till I finally get to where I'm going. I love this Board and new format but hate trying to read it as of lately. I hope something is done soon, Thanks, Captain Ron

While it won't stop me from coming here, I agree it is getting even worse these last couple days.  Makes me feel like I am back on a 14.4 dial up connection.  :(

It's a real hit or miss for me. Sometimes it works like it should, and others....forever! I have cut back on my visits because of the aggravation. >:(

Ron,

I'm wondering if your connection needs tweaking. I too have moments when the BB is rather slow, but as of this post, I am able to view any page I click on within 2-3 seconds.
My connection is a WiFi, usually clocked at 1.25mb sec.

Nick, I also have problems with the board.
I use a cell phone connection that connects at between 125K and 2.5M, but at times I wait more than 3 minutes for a page change.

We really shouldn't holler too much though, to date, we have had over 3 MILLION views, with an average of over 7500 per day.

Our average registration is almost 4 per day with average posts at 82 per day.

We are growing by leaps and bounds and have far outpaced the old board in posts, views and members.

One thing that is slowing us down is that we are sharing a server with other sites and if you will notice, we gt slow during peak times.... from coast to coast. That's kind of like having morning rush hour continue in Bakerfield, California from 05:00 until 11:00 and evening rush hour go from 14:00 until well after 23:00.

Soon I hope we will be on our own server, and things should pick up a bit.

For the time being, everyone, just consider that if this were a television station, at times they would have notices up that, "Due to Technical Difficulties......."

In the internet world, we don't get that luxury. Please, hang in there, we are having growing pains and have to learn about all this stuff that Al Gore invented for us!  ;)

Hello Guy's,

Sometime in the very near future, Phil will be upgradeing us to virtual hosting

"A big Thank You to Mike for this" because it costs some bucks to do.

When this happens, it may take a month to intergrate all systems properly.

I hope we all can be paitent during the change.

This upgrade will resolve the issues of board slowness along with some others.

Thank you for your faithfullness!

Intermitent is how I would describe it. But the last couple days it has been mostly slow.  As of the moment of this reply though it is quick.  I'm on a 7Mbit connection and most sites are fast on it most of the time.

Dallas, given that DNS problems have been ruled out, I am guessing you've hit it on the head.  There is likely 100-1000 sites hosted on the same server (depending on the server and the sites).  When you move it onto its own server, or even just a virtual dedicated server, this site should fly.

When I came back to check on this post it was lightning fast. after reading them all when I went to reply it was back to the same slowness I've been experiencing. I use Verizon air card but don't know how to check my connection speed but I'm in a broadband area.

I use Road Runner at home and we have multiple T1's at work.  The board has gotten slower, but not unreasonably slow for me.  I don't think I've ever had it time out.  I just figured that there were a lot of us on it, which is a good thing.  It'll be nice when the speed's back up to where it zips along like it used to.

Dallas;

The rush hour in Bakersfield last's all day anymore, and the board is slow but I can put up with it no more than I am on it.

Virtual Hosting is a "Shared" system, One computer and many websites. Defrays the bandwidth costs.

I suspect that this BBS is running on one already, Maybe the bandwidth is set low to keep the price down...

A Standalone server means one website per server. It's very expensive to build and also operate. The Tech's want
to get paid for every little problem, Glitch and or Operating system update.

We went to a shared system a while back at rackspace, Speed has been excellent as well as the 24/7 included tech support.
yes it's more expensive but if reliability is at stake it's the only way to stay on top of your money maker. Having multiple
redundant T-3 fiber circuits is great... I like not having to buy a $4,000 server machine every other year too!

I don't know, but given the reference to "upgrading to virtual hosting" and given the recent lags, my guess would be that it is currently on a regular web hosting account.  Although virtual hosting still shares a server with many other sites, unlike standard shared hosting, each virtual account is assured its preallocated share of the physical server's resources.

Virtual hosting is the next logical step for a growing forum.

I sont sleep well and sometimes am on the board at 3/4 am and it is lightning quick!!! i wish it were slower so I would get bored and go to sleep.  See I can complaine about anything!!!
