Roof coat project

Used the EPDM product 'Liquid Roof'  this past week on the MCI. A few caveats for anyone thinking about using this product.
Pros:
The two part mix really does create a rubber membrane that sticks to everything and thoroughly waterproofs;
The white color seems to reflect more of the sun's heat than regular paint;
Not hard at all to mix the catalyst into the rubber base mixture.
Cons:
The mixed stuff has a published 'open life' of four hours - that's generous, especially if it's hot out;
The curved edge of a bus roof is a challenge. The stuff is like thin peanut butter or thick yogurt, so runs on a curved roof edge are likely;
If you can, do the job inside. The applied coat stays sticky for a day or so and seems to attract bugs. Pine needles and other windblown matter are a given if done outside.Rain on a freshly done roof will give you a unique pebbled surface like interior home ceilings of the '70s;
The boys at the mail order store will try to sell you two 4-gallon pails for a 40 foot bus. I only needed 5 gallons total, and wish I had bought it in one gallon containers. Short open life.

There is definitely a learning curve to using this stuff. It's good, but incredibly messy, and difficult to apply evenly.

Thanks Mike, glad it worked out.
I ordered some and sprayed a coat on the interior of my stripped 4106 shell using an undercoating gun as a waterproofing before I spray in foam insulation.
Worked really well! Next will be a coat on the exterior roof. I was wondering about curved surfaces with it running. How did it do on the curved part? Any tricks?

The video on their site shows a guy starting by pouring a small puddle -about 18 inches across- and then using a squeegee to move it around to about double that size, then using a roller to further spread it.
Don't pour that puddle too near the downward edge - gravity will defeat you!
     I made the mistake of using a thick roller for semi-rough to rough surfaces, and it loaded up way too heavy with this viscous stuff. Use a medium roller. And for the curved edges, go light. Go back a few minutes after doing a 3 or 4 foot section and roll out any runs - it seems to take them a while to form.

It does need to applied in a shop,use a sponge roller on the curve and it is easy to build up do your curve 1st with a trim roller it will stay there

I called tech support and the lady said it could be applied im as many coats as I wanted as long as each coat is fully cured before the next.
She said that they dont recommend to people to do it in multiple coats because no one ever allows enough time between coats for it to properly cure.

Somewhere on this board are photos of Jesse's 45 ft Eagle he did with the EPDM I think he done his in coats and it turned out nice.
Shame, Jesse doesn't post here anymore I receive updates on his conversion process through another site he is doing some fantastic work on his conversion
