670.38 without mounting.

It would be over 6K to mount 8 of them. Is that normal? The last time I looked at tires they were in the $300-400 range.

I'm in Minneapolis any other alternatives?

I second that Simple Tire online outfit! I bought 2 front steers $300 and change and $60 shipping to Florida.
And they have a fairly good call center that you can order from and ask questions.

I looked at their website and for the life of me I can't figure how to search for a normal 12 22.5 :-\

You might check out the Roadmaster RM185HH.  Made in China, but it is a Cooper Tires brand so you have an American company behind them.  I have the RM185 tires on my bus.  The RM185HH is specifically the 315/80R22.5 version for buses.  The HH stands for heavy hauler.

I found the best deal on these at Royal Tires in the Minneapolis area.

On a cold windy night at about midnight a 11r24.5 goodyear cost 8 hundred and 65 dollars.

Good Sam paid for them to bring it out and install it.

Had a spare under the front bumper but it was worth it for the repair man to bring me a new one.

Rick - do you really need the larger metric tire?  If you have axle weights you may find you can get away with a smaller tire - hence cheaper.  Worth looking into if you haven't already.

RickB

Unfortunately I'm on my way in the bus to the Bakken oil fields Thursday on business and one of my steer tires has a noticeable side wall rain check so I need to do this with my neighbor who works at a local shop. Brian the reason I don't want to switch to a smaller tire is I can never move them back to the drive axles when they are too old or worn to be steer tires anymore.

I'm gonna have to bite the bullet on these but he thinks I have a couple years at least on my drives.

Still $670 a tire? wow! Turns out $97 was taxes. Of course, the administration that hates all things oil sure likes the taxes it can make off it.

With prices like that I can envision people trying to squeeze every day of life out of a set of tires and the result is going to be a lot of road service calls.

I have a pair of two-year-old Hankook AH12 tires on the steer. Was going to put two more of those on the L/R drive last week, but when they arrived at the local tire shop, they were also two years old. I was willing to pay $500 per tire, but not for a pair that old. The warehouse that serves all the tire shops in this area said that all their Hankook AH12 tires were made in the 20th week of 2013.

Ended up buying two Chinese made Doublestar tires. Installed yesterday for $360 each. They're fresh, and they look good, for what that's worth. Local distributor claims they've been carrying them since 2010 and had excellent service. Since I plan to replace them when they hit five years from date of manufacture, I believe this is the most cost effective approach. I plan to buy two more next month.

My tires are 12R 22.5, but they also make metrics. So do several other Chinese brands that have good reps. Most of the big name companies have priced me out of the market. YMMV.

Went with two Dayton tires which my neighbor who sells truck tires said are basically the FS400 for $450 a tire

That felt a little more normal. I know these may not last as long mileage wise but the tires we have are like new tread depth wise, we just don't put enough miles to justify $600 more for two tires.

 Hi;
I too have been looking at tires.   You might look at ebay.  There is an auction
there from Chicago tire that has decent prices and offer free shipping.  Check
it out.  Allso,  I  have been considering going to 315 80 22.5.  Big trucks are using
these and are thus becomming easier to come by than the 12r 22.5 size.
( I would rather made in us, but is not in my budget)
