It's alive!

So my bus has been sitting and hasn't started since we brought it home over 6 months ago. I haven't had any time to work on it when the weather has been nice enough, which probably has been a total of 3.2 days since then. Lol
I had some time last night and decided to try to get battery/starting situation figured out so it's easier to move. I have a couple of used, but good, group 31 batteries in it but it just won't turn over hardly at all. The engine came out of a newer transit bus and I was worried it might have a 24v started in a 12v bus. I did some testing and I'm losing all power when I try to crank. The short battery cables don't really look very good so I scabbed some "new" ones up, had to re use one cable but I put new ends on it. I cleaned up the connections and tried it again.....
I was using the start button back above the engine and I about jumped back when the thing rolled over at a much faster speed and started right up after only a 2-3 seconds of cranking. With only 2 seconds of white smoke it cleared right up! I couldn't believe it! I was shocked in a good way
I let it warm up, checked the voltage and I had 13.6 volts, that's good. I aired up the bags, drove it around a bit and re parked it. When I parked it I noticed the dash volt gauge was back up above 16 volts again   I'll have to do some reading on how and where to adjust and clean the voltage regulator, but that will be another day....

It's a great feeling, ain't it?, when you get a beast fired up and go for a ride after a long winter's nap!!  Be it a Harley or a Detroit, it's great.  Almost makes one think it's spring!

Yes always a big relief. That's how I feel about my 1988 LAWNBOY walk behind. That tough old bastard fires up year after year many times with 2-3 pulls after winter slumber.
