In California you just call your Insurance company and tell them you have a crack or pitted window in your car and they send out someone to repair or replace it within days. No raised rates or questions asked. They told me it was more cost effective than your windshield breaking while you are driving and causing an expensive accident. also if they raise your rates for something that is supposed to be covered in your policy or for no apparent reason then you can report it to your local state insurance commissioner to investigate and 9 times out of 10 they will reverse their decision.  Thats what the commissioner is there for, and people don't use them and the insurance companies know that.

It seems a few of you have had good luck with your insurance taking care of several claims with no appreciable rate increase.

How about sharing the name of your insurance company?

I've had at least five comp claims in the past decade and no increases in auto costs that I can tell.  four windshields for the bus and a tree fell on my car.

Insurance company is called Secura, but I just switched to West Bend in December and saved at least 15%.  A lot of the savings is because the liability is taken off the bus for most of the year.  That was something I didn't/couldn't do with Secura.

I've priced windows and for quality dual panes custom and new if you get them for less than 800 a window with shipping you are doing pretty good.  Size matters :)

That would be nice to take the insurance off when not in use here in Az it's a PITA you have to do it through the DMV with a out of service form then go back and spend hours putting in back in service

Hi, Cliff.

I don't know how you got so unlucky. We fill out an on-line form to deinsure, then call the agent to suspend the insurance. When we want to use the vehicle, I call the agent and it takes less than a minute to restore coverage.

I don't know if it makes any difference, but we insure through State Farm. Also, Doreen tells me that it makes a difference if your browser can save the information that you type in.

For what it's worth.
