I'll be installing the CMQD7500 Onan in the front bay of my MC-5. Those of you who know them and have one know what I'm asking here. Should I cut the holes for air intake and discharge with a sawzall or plasma cutter? I'm not sure the plasma cutter will work on the corrugated underside.

Once I get the holes cut in the floor, what would you recommend for sealing the generator base to the hole in the floor so the intake sucks from below the bus not the bay and so the discharge blows out below the bus not into the bay?

Should I set the generator base on something like plywood or aluminum or just bolt it securely to the floor with the mounting holes provided?

Mine is mounted in such a way to leave the entire bottom open to the ground, I don"t know if thats needed, but is handy for maintinence reasons.>>>Dan

Another opportunity for isolating the generator from the coach?

Same as a roof air, some wood or similar softens up the contact?

And some mesh to keep the critters out of the gen!

Happy coaching!

I have an Owan 10k mounted on slides which I highly recommend. The holes that are cut through the floor are not sealed and I have not have any problems having over 1300 hours on the unit.

I think I used my jigsaw. Either that, or a 4" angle grinder with a cutoff blade in it.

Make sure you get your holes positioned on either side of the longitudinal supports under the floor. You don't want (or need) to cut through any of those.

I think I cut mine with several different tools. Die grinder, sawmill, jig saw, etc. Before I cut the bay floor I cut a template out of 1/4 inch plywood then used it to mark the bay floor. Mine is not sealed and has not had a problem.  If you put expanded metal or such over the holes you would need to be able to take it out to change the oil and service it.

Good suggestion Craig. I need to remove the carpet there I suppose too.

Hi Fred,

I eventually had to duct my discharge air on my 12.5 because on a hot day, it would regurgitate discharge air

and overheat.  Only while sitting still though!  The simple fix is to install a rubber seal around the discharge

connecting the gen base to the bay floor hole.

I had them made from someone on this board, however that was over ten years ago and don't remember his name. If I remember right the cost was around $300.00

Be careful, some of these units only have access to oil filter etc. from the bottom, so beware when designing the perfect mount.

Thanks for the heads-up.  Will spec slide width and length and fabricate mounts myself.  This should insure best access and ventilation.
