I'm already planing next winters Family Bus Run. I'd guess the Keys have a lot of rules, as they must see constant RV traffic. I have been there several times in a 4 wheeler and stayed in motels. What good info can anyone share about their experiences from Islamorada to Key West that can help keep me out of trouble and enhance my visit? If I remember right I'm not even allowed in Key West. Stock island has a camp ground you can park your bus at (Jabors). Keywest has a campground but it would be difficult getting in and out. You can take your bus on the island but no real parking for it and you cannot stay in it unless your in a campground. And they WILL enforce that. Very pricey during season. A lot of the campgrounds are disappearing.

Figure on 90-100+ per night in the season at commercial parks.

I was just searching for a spot over Labor day and they are about booked up at commercial parks and forget the state parks.

State parks are much cheaper, but book up wayyyyyyy in advance.

Unlike some parks, if they say 35', your 40'er wont fit....Space is at a premium.

Remember that there is only one way in and out of the Keys, so traffic is a major hassle on holidays.

Park the bus and use the toad or rent a car.

That said, it is a fun place and I would put it on a must see at least once list.

Check the local festival/events calender as some are not for the timid or family friendly(ie kids...my opinion)

KOA has a large RV park on Fiesta Key, as Cliff said ... very pricey

I payed $780.00 for 3 weeks in my own tent on Stock Island 10 years ago and was put in the overflow area which is also the dog run area and next to the sewer treatment plant. Took that long to find a room to rent that was acceptable.

You can take a bus to Key West.  You just can't it down to the old section of town.  October I stayed three nights in Sear Towns back parking lot without any problems.

Stayed at John PenneCamp on Largo in Bus,  rented a car and explored,
visited freinds/relatives in long key to go lobstering,  quite camping on the water, good place to have a boat, could get a 40' in there,

also visited the one on the way to Key West but cant remember the name but i believe you could stuff a 40'ftr in there.

seems most had water, power at site, but dump station,  had keypad gates for coming and going after hours.

Good time to work inarcadia on theway down
It's all fun and games til someone gets hurt. ;)

A few years ago we stayed at sunshine key,KOA in May for three weeks. The rates are alot cheaper but it tends to be warmer. We had a great time and I wish we could stay down there all winter. The campground is quiet during the week, but the locals come in on the weekends and can get a little loud.

Maybe park in Ft. Myers and take the ferry/cat to Key West.  Sounds like a real hassle taking a bus out there. ???

I've taken the Ferry, it's a nice ride, RT is not cheap.  Of course when you get to Key West you can take the Bone Island Shuttle all around the island.  A one day pass is not to hard on the billfold.  Another time we parked in Sears Town and rented a moped for three days to get around, but I've said that....... :o  Note: the time we were in Sears Town, there was always other RV there.  Another note: you can no longer park overnight by the beach.
