I guess if one is stupid enough to air up a tire in a flimsy cage like that, they kind of deserve the potential outcome.

We had a cage which my dad build from 2" drill stem. I saw a couple split rings come off inside that cage. They formed
themselves to the contour of the pipes but nobody got hurt.
