I was at a campground and the manager came around to do the paperwork. When I invited them in to sit down and do it, they seemed surprised. The message I took away from that is that people do not generally invite them into there traveling homes. While I may be amenable to the idea at a campground with someone I have time to evaluate, considering the risk to benefit ratio, I don't think strangers approaching at short stops are a worth the gamble. As said above, there are polite ways to say no (like asking if they have a warrant).

I let some teenage kids and their Mom in one time, and when I was leaving, discovered my cell phone was gone. I went to their trailer and said if they returned it after "mistakenly" taking it, nothing would happen. It magically reappeared out of their trailer.

Hence, I do not let just strangers in. If after getting to know someone, I will allow a supervised tour. Really too bad. Good Luck, TomC

I tell folks I'm sorry but I can't let anyone in. I transport REALLY important people & I would lose my job If I let anyone in. They usually say "I understand, thanks anyway".

FYI, my wife is REALLY important!

We run buses for a business and people will just walk up and try and get on board, even though they are black and very private looking. For some reason people just think a bus is public domain.

Tom, I wonder if you can slip a "don't look around now -- if they find out you've spotted them, they'll take you to Bulgaria -- but the guys in black suits and sunglasses are watching". Don't forget the really conspiratorial tone -- you could send some people wobbling out of orbit for days!

That's actually what happened at one of the places we stayed. I had a Datastorm satellite dish. It came with a yellow warning sign about emitting radiation when in use. For some reason some of the locals thought I was a guvment agent and was taking pictures of them & sending them to some super secret facility. I got an email from one of them some time later addressed to "Tom, or whatever your real name is"

Gotta laugh!

I for one equate the request the same way if somebody bangs on your front door begging to use the toilet ... right now! No. Nothing good can come out of it. There are obvious exceptions ... like being at a Bus Conversion get together and we all know each other. Other than that ... a polite but absolute ... NO! Just me. HB of CJ (old coot)

I let em all in. I enjoy hearing travel stories from the past. I have way more fun at cruise-nights with the bus, than any of my old cars. Commercial vehicles have touched more humans's lives than any other. A car or truck could have as much as a dozen owners over time, but buses have thousands of passengers over the years.

Allowing others to enjoy is what it is all about for us.

Biggest difference is that Tom's Scenic is restored as it came out of Marmon-Herrington after the '61/'62 rebuilds of the coach, thus it still looks like it's in revenue service and is a huge draw for that reason alone.

Those of us with our one-bedroom-condos-on-wheels have a different perspective, proud but wary.

Some of us are still at "sharecropper shack on wheels" hoping to get to "condo on wheels" when the weather breaks!

I have the most trouble getting away from fuel stations and curious truckers.

We always have a bunch of people who want to talk about the 04's Drivetrain and take it's picture.. And this is at top speed and open road events.. Gearheads are Gearheads always interested in anything mechanical.. Always willing to show. That's entertainment.... RDW
