Glass Film

Has any one had any experience with the window film that protects your front glass from rock chips and cracks

I didn't think there was anything legal that could be put on a windshield.

If there is, that would be great. I just drove to Quartzsite and back home to BC, and got 3 rock chips and one crack starting to spread. One hit was just North of Lake Havasu City on 95...

No. Can't imagine it would be very effective, though, but maybe if it's really thick, and then only for small stones. I'd be concerned about vision distortion
and scratching of the film by the wipers.

Is it kind of like Nascar peel off windshields?

I have full glass coverage on my insurance, so I don't worry about cracks. I let the insurance pay to replace them when they get cracked. Professionally done
and all new rubber and glass. I don't have to mess with it myself. I've done it a few times, and it's not a fun job. It's been a few years since I've needed them
replaced.

Coach Glass in Eugene OR is your closest place my 5 was the same as the 7 I wonder if yours is the same as a 8 ?

   You should have full glass coverage on your coach. It's not that much extra. With our vertical windshields, stones find them like birds find washed cars.

hi JC, sorry to hear about the damage, that new resin they use for small chip replacement works good. MCI had new rubber for the windshield still available. tom, lvmci...

 JC, i remember talking to a guy at one of the BusN'USA rallies that had a 7 and he said that he got a couple of windshields out of i think MCI in Tennessee ?  for $250 each. The 5A and 7 are the same, not sure about the 5C or the 8. I would think that all of the 5 series were the same though.  Sounds like Cliffords suggestion of Coach Glass in Eugene would be your best bet unless there is somebody in Seattle or Spokane.

Hi JC-- when I did my bus I ordered new windshields from MCI but I also noticed that they where made by a company I think it was Calgary, Alberta. They had their name on a sticker in corner of glass.  Before you order anything let me find the company name for you. ( with bus paper bills at shop)- tomorrow. Maybe one can order direct instead of through MCI-- maybe cheaper.

Hi JC-- I did find the numbers for you today but I do not think I am going to be of any help. I am starting to think the company PPG is so large that they do not deal with anyone except big order people like MCI, Prevost, etc.etc. I could not get anywhere looking on google.  About three months ago when driving on a gravel road (heading for lake to go ice fishing) I got a VERY large rock chip on truck windshield. I decided to try the crazy glue bond I had heard about. Cleaned chip with cleaner used before paint spraying then filled chip hole with crazy glue. Took about four goes to fill hole. I do not expect this fix to last forever but it might stop chip from running until you get new glass found. Sorry I could not have been more help.

I will also ask Crystal Glass in Calgary. I used to go to them for refurbished side double pane glass for the 102D of the hockey team's. They do buses glass for the local charter companies. So maybe they do windshields too...

Here is a brand new company making a film for windshields, just in startup mode right now.  It's a film that is designed to not allow frost to form, but it is apparently extremely tough and will also prevent chipping.  It can be retrofitted, and they are going to trial it on truck windshields.
