2 stage thermostat

Ok... I am at, yet, another hurdle.

I installed my Suburban SHD-2542 Furnace and it works just fine in both low and high modes.

I called several RV stores looking for a Suburban Thermostat and found that the price is out of this world.

Suburban's single stage thermostat (161154) is $12... the 2-stage thermostat (161202), that I need, is $170; over 14 times the amount of the single stage thermostat.

This is not a digital... interactive... voice activated... remote controlled... programmable... 7-day... back-lit... touchscreen... GPS... Wi-Fi thermostat; just a simple mechanical thermostat.

The 2-stage thermostat (161202) uses many of the jigs, fixtures and parts from the single stage thermostat (161154), so what is the big deal.

If I'm going to spend that kind of money, I want a high-end Honeywell.

Anybody have any ideas?

        Got NOOooooo idea of how that model furnace works but how about two of the thermostats -- a separate one for each mode?

You can buy a cheap house 2 stage tstat cheaper than that.

Yes!!!

The pricing on that stat is unconscionable and fundamentally wrong; it is price gouging.

Once turned on and set, the furnace tries to satisfy the setting at the low mode. If after a certain time it does not, it switches the furnace to the high mode to satisfy the setting. I believe this is accomplished by a little timing circuit, a capacitor and a resistor, built into the stat. Nothing exotic at all.

I must say the Suburban SHD-2542 really kicks out the heat in the high mode.

Now looking to Honeywell for a solution.

Yes,

A simple 2 stage t-stat should be your answer.

2 stage stats are usually staged 2 degrees out, meaning that if your stat is set at 70 degrees

and your room temp only drops to 69 degrees, then only the 1st stage will engage. If the room

temp drops 2 degrees or (68) then the second stage will engage as well.
