What is this deal the dealer is offering another 2400 off if I financed, I never heard of that before it makes no sense the banks are paying about nothing and this guy wants you to save your money and pay them 7% lol I was born at night but not last night

That is what a buddy of mine did. He financed it (it was only 38K), but after he made the mandatory two or three payments, he paid the truck off. Saved him about 2K. I just pay cash for my vehicles. Mine cost pretty close to his, but they didn't have the finance incentive, so I wrote a check.

I am debt free and want to keep it that way, like the old musician once said to much music to play and so little time left .We have friends with nice bank accounts and think they are doing good setting on the cash and owe 3 or 4 times the amount they have stashed

Its like the people who think getting a rebate for something is a good thing when they have just financed it and then they get the cash in hand. Hello you just financed a rebate. I crack up when they then tell you what a good deal they got????????

A good deal is drop the price that much and I pay cash!.... I call 3 or 4 places ask for the sales manager or owner. Then you tell them that this is what you want color, model, options. You tell them you are paying cash and expect them to make some profit but you also want a great deal. You also tell them you are calling other dealer with the same thing. If anything is different you will go somewhere else because you want to do the apple to apples thing. Then tell them to call you back or you call them in 45 minutes and you want their best deal.

They have one chance if they beat around the bush you go elsewhere. If you go with who ever and go in to sign papers, look them over well to make sure nothing has changed like an added on extra care policy or extended warrantee, etc. Look over the vehicle to make sure it is what you want and test drive it at that point. Right before you give them the cash or check ask if they can throw in a bed liner (doesn't cost them much to do this)or something like that. You will get it too. ;D

Dealers typically get a kickback when they sign up a customer for financing.  That is why you can often get a better deal if you finance with them.  Everyone thinks you get the best deal with cash, but you don't much of the time.  The dealer makes money when you finance so they can lower the price of the vehicle a bit.

I know a lot of folks who take the financing to get a better deal and then pay off the loan within a few weeks.

If you are concerned that driving it home will cost $20,000, then get one that someone has already driven home.  I'm sure there must be some with around 10k on them that you would hardly know it still wasn't new.
You don't have to believe everything you think.

The trade-in value might go down $20K but the retail used sell price is about $3K below new retail.  The dealers know that they need their margin no matter what.  Last car I bought I financed for two years at 1%.  I had the cash in the bank earning around 5% (in my investment account) so I just set up monthly withdrawals and kept my credit score high...  The only thing was that I was freaked out by having $1,000 a month car payments - shades of being poor when I was young (and poor now, what goes around comes around)

They say the average car or pickup payment is over 700 bucks a month now, doesn't seem that long ago I could pay my house, car, pickup all the power, gas and insurance for 1/2 that amount and save money

Jon,

Every time I go to the local Dodge dealer for services, in my truck or either of our two vans, the salesman that worked the deals in 2003 always says the same thing, "Will, its time to move up. The new trucks ride so much better, fuel mileage is up, let's trade!" He always gets the same answer, "But I just LOVE my truck. If I wanted something that rides so much better I'd by a car."

Dave  After 55 years in the world I am back in the 1960 on the amount of money I take home.  On my social security payment every month after they take out all the insurance, and every thing else they"THE GOVERNMENT WANTS".and paying all the taxes on every thing own and buy. I end up with about the same as I was making in the 60's.

If I had not worked long hours and invested good. I would be on welfare like half of the people in the usa.

Clifford- Your wife only specified "nice truck". That leaves a lot up to interpretation.  :)

That's true but I was better off back then. You could work hard & make some money.

I bought a '66 Mustang new & paid a little over $2000 for it. My Daddy said I had lost my mind!

I remember the first week I bought home a $100 paycheck. I told my wife we didn't even know how to spend that kind of money!

We were quick learners though!!   ;D ;D
