I just discovered my 1995 International has been clocked at some point. The clocker wasn't too bright about it though.

The digits don't line up. I'm not sure if this was done by the guy I bought it off or the guys he bought it off. Not sure even whether I should pursue the guy I bought it off even though this fiddle is a federal offense.

All I can say is the engine sounds sweet. The transmission could probably do with some work though.

Just because the numbers don't line up exactly, doesn't mean a thing. I have seen my Kenworth speedo flip over 1million miles and the numbers don't line up either. Good Luck, TomC

I think that I'd be asking (on a 19-year old vehicle) if the true mileage was 1,095,567 or 2,095,567 or 3,095,567.

I dunno. It was in service 1995 -2011. The school year is 40 weeks and a quick estimate says that's 2 journeys times 5 days times 40 weeks times 16 years. It has a governor set at 55mph.

6400 journeys at 3 hours each at 55mph would be less than 1095xxxx

Its the uneven digits that tells me it has been fiddled. I bet that at 1xxxxxxx they all line up nicely.

I don't know about a bus, but I've seen lots of non-fiddled car odometers that didn't line up.  I don't think that means anything at all.

Zephod-  Did you hear back from the Calcasieu Dept of Education?  You will probably have to find a mileage discrepancy written in black and white to get results.

AMEN to that! I have seen many many odometers that didn't line up cars trucks buses motorcycles you name it!

Big trucks almost never line up after 100,000 miles.

But just for kicks and giggles go ahead and call the local prosecutor and file a complaint! (be sure to report back to us afterwords)

When I was driving school bus the average route was around 15 miles long.  180 school days a year, times 30 miles, times 16 years is 86,400.  I think the mileage is kind of within the bounds of credibility, anyway.  I drove urban/suburban routes.  Rural routes can be up to around 30 miles around here.  The digit they usually change would be the 10,000's digit, and the 9 in yours looks perfect.

The mileage might be representative.  My 1974 Crown Supercoach only ran up about 350,000 miles in total after a 26 year long career   Schoolies, particularly the new ones, just do not rack up very high mileage figures.  The new schoolies are kinda a throw a way low total mileage models.  After about 10 to 15 years, or about 100,000 miles, they are sold off and new school buses are purchased.

Also it would be easy to check the rest of the chassis, looking for fresh engine gaskets, pressure washing in non likely places, or evidence of chassis or suspension work.  An engine, tranny and rear end oil analysis would also might help.  Look for major replacements, like engines, trannys, steering boxes, U joints, radiators, fuel tanks, brake work, etc..  Odometers can have out of tilt mileage figures.  HB of CJ (old coot)

I had an interim reply from the school board. Since it's only a 180 day school year (seems awfully short to me) then it all does add up.

When I made my comment above, I didn't know that it was a school bus.  Since it has had much less use than a highway coach, you're right.

I for one would like to have a look at your new girl.   Also so I can imagine how it might be possible to cram in a hot 8V92TI Detroit with Jake and an appropriate big Road Ranger tranny.  Just me.  HB of CJ (old coot) :) :)

Ten months a year, 20 school days average per month, 200 days, minus 10 days at Christmas, 5 days March break, 5 other holidays or PD days got me 180 days.  No idea if it's completely right or not, but close enough.  If you are happy with your bus, be happy with your bus!
