I'm no expert but that sounds really cool?

We have a newbi over on the MCIbusTalk board with a MC-6 with a 12V71 twin turbo.  Some of you folks might want to say hi.

Who owns that bus now for a while there were a couple of the 6's around with twin turbos but I haven't seen those around in years I am glad someone still is running one

12V-71TTA is just about the best sounding engine ever. With the exception of the 16V-92TTA-but that's too big. Good Luck, TomC

Having been there & don't that  with the 12V-71TT for a very short time, went back to the N/A setup, that worked out very well for me BUT in the end the 8V-92 in the 600+ hp area was a better setup with a lot less weight, about 1200 lb less,  not the crazy wheel spinning power nor the fuel guzzeling. 5 mpg.  Was happy with all my crazy contraptions, but common sense made the 92 at 7.5 mpg a better choice for me.  Many great experiences with that old 12V, passing a chap with a new 465 Cat with empty aluminum flat bed on a mountain, when he asked what in hell I was running, told him it was an old wore out 318, knowing he was never a happy trucker after that as he  became unglued.

Any old DETROIT 2 cycle will sound like none other. I've heard a 12V and unless the difference is so subtle, I couldn't tell the difference in sound to a 6-71 or 6V-92 but the 8V is in a class by itself. :)

The 6L-71 inline DDEC has the most unique sound of any DD to me once your hear that sound you never forget it and I like the sound of the 8v92 DDEC it's different too

Before some of you get chubbed up by the "twin turbo" part, that is done because using a big, large single one would be slow to spool up, especially in a otr vehicle. Using two small ones helps reduce that issue, while supplying the same boost. Also reduces plumbing. Now if the turbos were compound, then that would be different.

I ran twin turbos on my 8v92 for about year just to play with the 60 series guys sure was a bitch to cool and took a lot of fuel to spool those babies but fun to pass those guys going up a grade

JC, the first couple of years that we were in Yuma there was a guy from Spokane that had a 6 with the 8v92 in it. There was enough room on all three sides of the engine that you could crawl in there and easily work on it. He opened up one of the bays and all that he had in there was a box of books.....i told him that i could live in there with all of the room there was. First time that i got bay envy!

Clifford you're right on the sound of the DDEC 6L71TA.  Mine uses double Flomaster mufflers with two exit pipes and it do sound good.  Kinda like a 6-92T but deeper.  Surprises folks expecting the sound of an old loping 6-71N on start up.  Surprises them on the hills too.

There was a DDEC 6-71 at Arcadia a year or so ago, I was impressed  with the overall quality of the entire setup, never heard it run, was in an Ironsides model think was fron N C, very nice.
