A renumbering of the 4905 was the H8H towards the end for GM I forgot the exact amount built but a little over 200 were made from 1979 to 1980 that is number 27 in the food chain

Don -

Just walked in the door, turned on the box and here you are chomping at the bit for some info on a GMC Buffalo!   ;D

H8H-649A-027 was delivered new as fleet number 69 ( :o ) in June of 1979 to Ellmas Bus Co, dba Academy Bus Tours, HQ'd in Hoboken, NJ.  Thus it's an east coast car, and a potential rust bucket.  All around the upper front roof cap, the upper deck windows, by the side "D" windows and the big rear window framing are the common places to find corrosion on this model.

Is the coach still seated, being scrapped or a conversion?

Mine is #028 from Academy. 8V-71 with V730. Doesn't have above rust issues, although it does have front and rear caps.

Most likely commuter runs into NYC and charter work.

Love it!!! I previously had a 4104. Always wanted an automatic and other than a larger turning radius, I wouldn't even consider going back. It rides great. I also don't have to worry about: drop boxes, rust eating away interior walls, sagging torsilastic suspension, tag axles........ Starter and water pump are only difficult to service items. The biggest item is that Clifford prefers Eagles...bwahahaha. Just kidding Cliff.

How about changing clutch or pulling transmission without getting underneath?

You don't see that many Eagles around with 4 speed manuals the good old 740 4 speed is so easy to install in a Eagle people just do it and they don't require a gasket on the starter or a sealed starter to keep the oil from leaking either now the upper head on a GM  ::) if both were the best Eagle and GM no one would own a MCI or Prevost fwiw I do like changing the power steering pump on a Gm vs a Eagle

I've always wanted to eventually go to a Prevost, however since all of the $$$$$$ stories with repairs of different sorts, I'll probably just stick with my GMC. I was in Bedford,Pa. last weekend and saw two Bowman transportation Eagles that were being used for transporting the public to remote parking area and back. Driver "claimed" they were last 2 Eagles produced. They did look sharp. (for an Eagle)
