Hey there, 4 headlights and only 2 worked.  1 high/low and one high on opposite sides of the bus that work.  Had read the manual and thought I had 12 volt bulbs.  Well after I got them out I saw that the high/low beams didn't fit the buckets well (they only have one lug not three) so they're not automotive.  The high beams have the 3 lugs and fit the buckets well but on the back they show a part number and ( surprise, surprise) 28 volt.  My coach is a 1979 and the manual I have is for 1989 and shows 12 volt system for the headlights.  The high beams have a part number of 4619 so I can go buy them somewhere I hope but I don't have a number for the high/low.  Can anyone help me out with a number?  Thanks, Don

When you say one lug do you mean on terminal for a wire to connect to?  If so is there any other metal on the bulb at all?  Because if not, there is no way that a bulb will work without at least 2 terminals.  The ground could be like a ring around the bulb somewhere or something, but I have never seen a headlight bulb like that.

No. He means lugs on the back of the bulb to mount into the cans.

Now would be the perfect time to upgrade to the more advanced headlight wiring system which uses 12v bulbs in series.

Follow the schematic in the manual you have. it's actually quite simple when you understand it, and it works remarkably well when done right.
If I'm not mistaken, there was an MCI publication that detailed how to do the conversion. I don't have it. Maybe someone else will.

There's a page on my website with a (very) brief description of restoring my MC9 headlight wiring to original schematics.

Thanks Gumpy,  That is an option however I plan to convert to Cibie E-code headlights and can get the bulbs in 24 volt.  I'm just looking for something to let me go camp once this year to say I've actually used it for camping then work on the interior over the winter.  Putting in a couple of lights that are 24 volt will let me do that now.  I found a couple of 4619 bulbs on ebay and was hoping that if I had the number for the high/low I could get one and be set for the next year while I'm working on the inside.

Don, if you have the 4"x6" rectangular lights I have a full set of Cibie E-code lights I will sell cheap.  They even have 24v Osram Truckstar bulbs in them with a set of spare bulbs.  PM or email if interested.

You probably have the round headlights, but some have the rectangular headlights.

Belfert,

I'd be interested in some new 24v light.  Tell me what you have.
