Shops in Phoenix

After reading, "What a Differents a Weekend Makes" .  I'm going to have all bearing inspected and repacked, plus the brakes hardward inspected before I move from Phoenix to Gulf Port, Miss the middle of July.

Looking for shops in the Phoenix area, any good ones, any bad ones.  Currently talking to Leo Wilt, with All Aboard America.  The shop rate is $80.00 an hours.  Guessing 2.5 hours per side, if no problems are found.

I'm currently having a ton of work done by Desert West Coach in Phoenix. So far I'm quite happy with their work. Hasn't been road tested yet though, probably next week.

They're just wrapping up six months of work to bring my Scenicruiser up to reliable mechanical standards. This includes a nearly complete rebuild of the brake system, suspension air lines, engine replacement, new radiator, steering system repair, yada, yada, yada.

msheldon, Is that your bus a few blocks from the ball park? I was out there a couple weeks ago. Are they putting in a turbo charged 8V71 for you? I was snopping around and saw them working on it. Good luck Tom Y

That would probably be the one. Desert West Coach is just south of the ballpark on 7th.

The engine is an 8v71TA, brand new rebuild. I'm *really* looking forward to getting her out on the road, possibly next week. She's been at the shop for over six months now, complete brake rebuild, axles pulled, bearings replaced, all air lines replaced, radiator rebuilt ground-up, air clutch rebuilt, new wheels, new tires. Basically, everything mechanical has been rebuilt, replaced or repaired.

i would have it done at All Aboard America Desert West is the only place i ever paid over 350.00 for an oil change Craig closed his shop now but he was the best in Phoenix

Just do not go to Tucson. There is a shop near the airport that is a real rip off.

Went by three shops, just checking it out.

Desert West Coach   didn't feel like they were very friendly,,,, shop hour  $100per hour.

All Aboard America,, Leo the shop manger, very friendly, showed me around.  looked for a couple parts,  shop hour $85.00per hour.

Michelangelo, nice folks,stop working on a bus to show me the van full of  MCI-9 parts.  Parting out two MCI-9's.  Answered all my questions with a smile.  Shop hour $65.00.

Just my thoughts.  I will go to either All Aboard America, or Michelangelo.  Leaning of course toward Michelangelo, for the shop hour cost.

i have heard that Michelangelo is a good shop for MCIs have a friend in Idaho that uses them when he comes for the winter

Highly recommend an independent out in Goodyear AZ just west of Phoenix on I-10. Good and honest mechanic stays very busy so call ahead.  Kevin Looney 602-eight 10-one 8 4 five. He also drives an 05 Eagle conversion.
