Clifford, i just had it changed again a few weeks ago due to age rather than the mileage. Took the PO 20 years to put on 248,000 miles and we only put on about 65,000 in 10 years. But since i am now retired we will probably be putting more miles on in a shorter period of time.
Used to own a 1968 MCI 5A and a 1977 5C.

Dave mentioned he put in motor oil? That intrigues me...

The guys at Global Transmission told me I could easily run 15w-40 engine oil in the MT 644/647.

Fred, apparently that can be done.  When I asked at United Transmission exchange about that, they recommended against it.  I thought about switching but did not for two reasons.  First, it runs just fine with Dextron, so I questioned whether there was any reason to do it.  Second, I thought that different oil colors can make it easier to discern where a leak is coming from.
You don't have to believe everything you think.

I have a ZF which may not fit in this conversation BUT the company that rebuilt it for me told me to change the oil every year or every 10,000 miles whichever came first. I asked about synthetic oil and was told it would go 80,000 kilometers or one year whichever came first.

Change the oil every year.

They also told me that oil was probably the cheapest thing that I would ever put into the transmission.

I change the oil every July no matter the miles and can only hope that it has a long life.

YMMV
