Hi all,
Out of curiosity, have any of you ever see an old 8v92 start leaking around the seals after running out of fuel while hot. I know a guy that was just wondering if doing that and then restarting it with starting fluid would cause that. It started leaking lots of water into the oil about 400 miles after that happened.

Starting a hot engine with starting fluid may have cracked the liners sufficiently to cause leaking to happen.

Starting fluid is ONLY supposed to be used on a cold engine to get it fired up. Anyone who uses starting fluid to run a Diesel when hot, I don't care what for, sets themselves up for this kind of engine failure. If I ever had a mechanic do that to my engine, I would swiftly kick him in the @$#, then tow my vehicle out to another shop. There are numerous ways to restart an engine that just ran out of fuel without using starting fluid. Good Luck, TomC

I hear ya Tom!
I would have never done that myself. He definitely knows nothing about Diesels. It was about an hour after it ran out that he tried restarting. But I'm sure it was still good and warm.

Idiots behind every tree, the DDC 2 strokes can be a challenge IF it is run dry on fuel, with a dry gear fuel pump, it will not pull/push anything.
Why I installed an electric pump offset before the filters, sure nice to pressurize the fuel system before you wear out the batteries and starter.
When too much either is used causes rods to find sunlight too.
