Meet Gladys. She is our beautiful 1966 4107 previously and lovingly owned by Cary and Don.

We have taken our new home on wheels through some exciting new paces on her first trip out. Going through hills big and small, canyons, deserts, forests, open prairies, dust storms, and howling winds that knock one around with ease. Through it all, Gladys has handled it with grace and style. We have been carefully monitoring all of our gauges and diligently following Cary and Don's advice on how to properly care for her.

And on that, I want to put out a HUGE thank you to Cary and Don. They have been nothing short of... well... incredible. They opened up their home to us, and taught a pair of bus noobs the ropes on how to properly care for this wonderfully crafted machine. They have shared with us the wealth of their knowledge and know-how; willingly and happily. I owe them a debt of gratitude that I'm doubtful to ever be able to repay. The knowledge they have imparted on us has gone a great way to getting us started on this new chapter, on solid footing. My brain feels like it's swimming right now, kind of a bit like drinking from a fire-hose. But the value and knowledge we've gained is immeasurable.

We said goodbye to CA two days ago, and good riddance to AZ last night :) (long story, but let's just say we had a less than favorable experience in AZ which I will probably put in another post). Tonight we said hello to NM as we spend our first night in an actual park. The first two nights were in a highway rest-stop and a truck-stop. All I can say is w..o..w..!! We have a gorgeous country with plenty of amazing things to see! I just wish we had more time to spend taking it all in. But alas, the last vestiges of our current style of life tightly grip us, and we must make haste across the country back home.

I want to thank everyone on this board for their kind wishes, their help, and for the general sense of community that this site fosters. I'm sure we'll have many more question as we continue on this adventure (actually we already have several) and I feel quite relieved to have a community such as this.

We continue our trek across the country in earnest tomorrow, hoping to hit the KC area sometime late Saturday.

Thanks everyone. We continue our trek home. We stayed the night in NM again last night, a few hundred miles further east. We stayed at Ute Lake state park. Nice park with great scenery right on the lake. We're the only ones here (there may be one other camper), so that's pretty nice and secluded. The wind is still howling like mad. Not sure if it's always like this, in this part of the country, but we've seen pretty consistent 30mph winds for 2 1/2 days now! The road markings for (and in) this park are really bad (or I'm really dense, which is quite possible  :-\), so it took us a bit of driving in circles to get here :D. We got in somewhat late last night so don't have any new pics yet. Will post some when we take some this morning.

We did our first 8 point, oops we shoulda gone the other way, turn last night, LOL. That was fun! The road we turned around on was narrower than the bus is long. We found a little gravel turn out and managed to get it done. One of the (many) reasons I love this bus! The turning radius is surprisingly small. While it took a few back-and-forths, we got it done :D

@Merle, we purchased the bus in Foresthill, CA. Our (stationary) home, for now, is Kansas City.

@CnC, Can't wait to see you guys again! Hopefully we'll get a chance to get together soon. Hope you guys are having fun wherever your are. The RVillage project looks to be quite a success and I bet is keeping you quite busy :D
Now that we have the bus, we've been using this week to visualize the space more easily with a fulltime point of view. We hope to be in here and on the road sooner rather than later :D!

@Mex-Busnut, I'll try to post some interior pics later this week.

Welcome to the madness! I am in Chapparal, NM right now and last night was a good dust storm. Not camping, but wishing I was! Prepping for an all expense paid "vacation" to a warm sandy place courtesy of the US Air Force!

Sorry but every time I see this title I think of my aunt Burt. Her teacher (2nd grade about 70 years ago) asked her what her sister's name was and her mind went blank. She could not come up with Gladys and finally she said its something like happy butt.  Her sister was not happy a couple of years later when she was in that teacher's class.
