Hi All, cleaned and changed the oil bath air cleaners on my MCI5A 8V71 today, never done it before, to tell the truth, had forgotten about them, having used spin on filters for vehicles and k&n for the bike.  There is 4 of them, blue in the pics, each 10/11 inches wide, the oil pan is 4/5 inches high, there is a special SS upside down saucer with holes for air direction for each, in the cylinder, engine side that the oil pans attach to is a SS filter, my understanding is outside air shoots down the cylinder, makes a u turn, the heavier dust particles continue down to hit the oil, or now coated with oil get trapped in the SS mesh, oil also gets splashed or misted upwards and drips down into the oil pan. Awkward to get in and out of place, to remove from the bay, oil was low, will check more often, two of them had a lot of mud (dirt, dust caught in the oil), one had hard crusted mud oil on the bottom, all had oil about half low, the marker being 2 quarts of 30W oil each. Had heard  alot of discussions here about paper vs oil bath, a lot less difficult than I imagined, a bit messy, thanks to Gary Bennet for showing me technique of removal and explaination of the parts. A whole lot cheaper than a paper element would be and probably took longer. But feel good about it now, dont hesitate to do this, you guys who have oil baths, its not that bad, lvmci...

 Water is heavier than oil, with that in mind always check the inside of the bottom pans for corrosion(rust). The water trapped in the bottom will eat thru the pans and it gets very messy.>>>Dan

I removed the 4 oilbath assemblies and associated metalwork to replace with 2 large paper air filters.

I was surprised at how much sludge has accumulated in the ductwork above the filters, not accessible without removing the ductwork. I'm glad I removed mine.

The larger paper filters are sized individually for a DT466 International, and the pair seem to provide plenty of fresh air for the 8V-71.
