Prevost H3-40 VIP DDEC-II ATEC

A long while ago the digital odometer became unreadable (garbled) - the trip odometer reads fine - recently had hooked a prolink to it to get the current odometer reading (I had no record of the miles when it went haywire) so I could reset the trip odometer and maintain the total miles record by adding the 2 numbers - problem is the prolink couldn't read total miles either (garbled too) - any idea how to fix this? I'm also concerned that when I sell it  :D like that's a possibility  :D I don't want to be accused of odometer tampering - BTW Prevost just wants me to bring it in  ::) so they're no help - thanks for your help

Niles not much help here but on the DDEC I and early DDEC 11 I never have been able to access the total miles with a Pro/Link and could never make the Sliverleaf read it either

If you can find someone with a early Kent/Moore reader it will read it, I only know of 1 person that has one a friend of mine Larry Jones in Albuquerque they are hard to find there wasn't that many Kent/Moore in circulation to the public they were dealers only mostly

good luck

So long as you disclose at the time of any sale that the odometer is not correct and don't misrepresent the known miles on the vehicle, you aren't subject to odometer fraud. Even if you fix it, you'd still be required to disclose that the odometer had been repaired, replaced and/or reset to have a completely legal sale.

thanks for your replies,

Luvr - the prolink seemed to work ok and even cleared some old codes - mine is a later model II though

Nusa - I don't think the scrapper is going to give any more for 'low miles'  :D

A Allison dealer can pull the total miles on a B500 I have seen that before at WW Wiiliams fwiw

Niles,

Speedometer failure is pretty common on that vintage coach. Prevost has a kit to replace your defective speedometer and all you can do is make a note of what you think the miles are on the coach when you replace it. I don't think you can get mileage from that vintage DDEC. I think it has to be DDEC III or higher.

I could never make a DD Pro/Driver work on a DDEC 11 either fwiw
