V71 Starter Removal Tools

Have a opportunity to pick up a 50DN alternator and a starter motor from a 6V71/VS transit powertrain that's sitting in it's cradle on the floor in a barn, so easy access from all sides.

What tools would you recommend I take with me to accomplish pulling these items, especially that cantankerous hard-to-reach nut on the starter?

Have lots of sockets, wrenches, swivels, extensions, etc. in main toolbox, both SAE and Metric, but just want to know what sizes I should take with me for this project, since it's a two hour drive away and am only taking a small tool tote, not the big box.

Standard stuff will work if it is factory setup you will need a 5/8 12 point wrench or socket has to be a shallow socket a deep well socket wont work on the top those babies are heavy be careful it can hurt

I usually try to take a son in law..They always want to impress and are younger and recover quicker than I..Really helps..Cable

My starter was held in by 15/16 nuts, a wobble extension helped also along with 15/16 closed in wrench.  I don't remember what size the electrical lug connections were.  Starter is easy if not working in tight confines under the bus

6V71 and 8V71 starter removal tools;

15/16th 12 point shallow socket (I modified a shallow socket to make it even more shallow)
12" 'wobble' extension (not a universal)
3/4 anything for the electrical post nuts
Breaker bar

I use a ratchet strap and a 2x4 or bar to support the gen and or the starter.  It helps if you're doing the job alone.

Grinder with cutting wheel to modify sockets or ?

Grinder with a cutoff wheel.  The sockets a hardened so sawzall blades don't really do much.  You don't need to take much off, it depends on the socket actually.  I needed to remove about a 1/4" to make it easier to get the socket off.
