I plan on driving my MCI 102A-3 into the mountains in search of cool air in a week or two. Can anyone recommend decent campgrounds in the mtns of NC or TN? Sure appreciate the help. I have several directories but nothing beats personal experience. I have been fooled by a directory description in the past.
Thanks.

I hope to hit up Grandfather mnt campground this weekend 4000 ft about 1/2 hr out of Boone

On the TN side not much too offer(there are a few but no shade and hot or Boondocking) or full of seasonal campers

a lot in NC we need to check out Google campgrounds near Boone NC for examples

there are several in and near west Jefferson, several on the old HwY16 which can get you near the new river

how do you plan to get up in the mountains(route)?

Sorry I couldn't be more help (if you need parts while near Boone area My wife works at NAPA(largest stock this side of Mississippi river)

There are some wineries and such in the area

friends have mentioned nice campgrounds near Gatlinburg area...no help there tho' keep us posted were you go and how it rates

I love the campgrounds on the parkway. half price f0r us old folks.

Might be a few places you can get into at Prices park and at Linville.

Also at rocky knob north on the parkway. Just no electric or sewer. just boone docking. do have water and dump.

Boone has a KOA but I have never been there camping.

There are several  corp of eng. campgrounds on Kerr Scott
out of north wilksboro and one at Stone mountain
these are extra nice the one at stone mnt is new.

If you come through Lenoir on 321 give me a call. 828     758   5820   if no answer eave a message and I will respond.

thanks all for thinking of us!!  We are in one of the top 10 scenic campgrounds in the entire country.  And it's a coe park, so dirt cheap, especially for old folks.

Lillydale campground near Livingston, TN, on Dale Hollow Lake.  water, elec sites.  and waterfront sites.  Danny Schofield was just here in his Eagle for the weekend.

We've stayed at Walden's Creek campground in Pigeon Forge TN.  Nice little place, not a far drive to see Cade's Cove in the Great Smoky Mts. Park.  Also have stayed (some years ago) at Creekwood Farm Campground in Waynesville, NC (Maggie Valley area) and friends have stayed at Pride RV Resort near there also.  Nice place south of Hendersonville, NC but not cheap is Lakewood RV Resort.  We always look for any discount available (AAA, FMCA, Passport America).

We like Townsend. Misty River http://www.mistyriverrv.com/ it's easy to get into and get out. We also like Tremount http://www.tremontcamp.com/  it's tighter but is wooded, Misty river is open not many trees.

I can attest to Lillydale's beauty...and the fishing is good too! Tom and Fran will make you feel at home. We hope to return again soon.

We are staying in NC for Sept.   There are 3 near there....honeybears is supposed to be good.  Any state park along the Blue Ridge Pkwy will be amazing. Lillydale just got added to our list!

Lillydale on Dale hollow lake, near Livingston, Tn., is tops!  Tom and Fran are your hosts - they're bus nuts like us and will look out for you.  Their beautiful Eagle will be sitting right by the check in shack.

We were going to stay at honeybear (they seem to always have a festival or music venue going on, not our cup of tea at $104 a day per person and we wanted quiet not bluegrass)

so we are sitting here at site 40 Grandfather mountain campground

elevation is actually 3200 so it's not much cooler than at the house

we got the last site for this weekend

their is a Wanderlodge here as well as another bus(I will find it today...lots of roads big campground)

there are lots of restaurants; a winery(with tasting room) w/In 2 miles of here

nice bath houses (3 of them with 4 rooms each)

no shade at top lots, it was warm yesterday...my neighbors are from Florida and they love the weather here

sorry so long, going to cook breakfast now

view as we relaxed and cooked last night

with all the rain we have gotten in last 6 months the road is alittle rough getting in, but no one seems to have had issues
