Hey I need some advice on getting my bus to start. It's an 82 MC9 with the 8V71. It ran great, and I was running but I went to turn the ignition off and nothing happened. I tried again and nothing happened it just kept running so I then hit the emergency engine stop switch on the dash. It chugged down to a halt. After that I tried to start it again, and it just turns over and over.

I'm in Corcoran MN 1500 miles from home, and need to get rolling.

Would the engine lose prime because I hit this switch?

Any advice ASAP would be greatly appreciated!!!

I checked the governor levers on top and they all seem to be moving freely

On top of the blower there is a electric solenoid when you pushed the button it tripped a latch push the lever at the solenoid and blower till it latches again may be one of these guys could send you a photo

sounds like you tripped the air box flapper, simply open it, it should reset, it is in the electric solenoid area on top on intake air horn.

The emergency shut down is behind the governor levers towards the front of the coach, on top of the engine.  You should see a large 2" cylinder with a rod coming out of it with a ball end, probably facing the curb side of the coach.  Below that ball end, you should find a lever with a notch in it for the ball end to catch.  Rotate the lever back up, engaging the ball and then try to restart.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Nice seeing info quickly available,  one of my biggie thoughts on NO STARTS is a broken / stripped blower drive gear, once you experience that one, you ever forget it, glad this one was the flapper.

RJ wins for the best description of how to reset that lever that I have ever read.   I would be very careful about your air pressure, since the shut-down device uses air pressure to push a stop lever on top of the governor.   No air pressure in the auxiliary circuit is the most common reason for the engine shut-down system to not work.  The air cylinder is controlled by a Skinner valve on the driver's side wall of the engine bay, just forward of the rear switch box.  If you ever have to stop the engine again in a situation like that, just set the brake, go to the rear of the engine and carefully reach in and rotate the engine stop lever on top of the governor manually.  It's the one that doesn't have the throttle cable attached to it, and you have to reach in between the fan belt so be careful.  But the emergency stop flap has been known to suck out the blower oil seals and require a fairly major rebuild of the blower to fix.  Oil leaking past the blower oil seals is one cause of engine run-away, so be careful when you start the thing up again.

If he has a stuck injector the emergency shut down is there for that reason to kill the engine, one comes here I toss the old fuel rods and the shut down they are more trouble than the are worth IMO

I would not reach into or around the drive belt.  Use a stick or similar to shut down the fuel.
You don't have to believe everything you think.

It also shuts off via the ignition switch now. Many it was due to the air system being too low and I just didn't notice. I think I freaked out a little and hit the emergency shut off. I really appreciate the quick responses.

Now what do I need to look for about my possibly damaged blower seals? You learn as you go with these things huh?

Don't worry about the seals just drive your bus home you did not hurt the seals if it did the blue smoke would be rolling

I'm about 10 miles from you.  If  you have time, call me and I'll come teach you a few things you should know about your
bus and engine like how to shut it off without using the emergency flapper when something like that happens next time.

I'll send you a PM with my number.
