I never carried the premium Road Service available and relied on a Ryder on my State Farm policy. Through good fortune I never had to use it till the last year.  Not on the bus, I had a flat tire on my van and turned a bill into State Farm. Then I had an trailer axle break and called a tow truck and had the trailer towed home.

I recently changed to a Credit Union and was told to get a quote from their insurance.  Which I did today.

First quote from Travelers for two vehicles for 6 months $653. 38, about $200 less than I pay SF, with the same coverage.  That is a whopping $400 a year almost 100 gallons of fuel

Then I was informed I had 3 incidents, One was not mine and the two towings. Because I had used the towing my quote is now $772 for 6 months. Or $119 more for 6 months. The agent informed me that the incidents will stay on my record for 5 years.

So $119 for 6 months or $238 a year for 5 years = $1190 or $595 per tow.

State Farm does not seem to be charging me a premium for using the towing.

I will stay with SF, but am going to drop the towing ryder.                       JIm

Hi yo silver

It seems that rates vary according to driver, vehicle, location, and insurance company. I think the bottom line is that each one of us just has to do our own comparison shopping. For me, adding my bus to my State Farm policy has been the best way to go for insurance coverage, with Good Sam being my best option for towing and road service on the bus. Just my experience.

This is not the first time I have read of someone having towing claims counted towards claims/incidents on their insurance.

I have towing coverage with my auto insurance, but it doesn't cover RVs so I have Coach-Net.
