My boys and I are headed out this morning with a trailer full of dirt bikes for spring break.

A little apprehensive because of the cold weather. We'll be overnight anywhere between Butte, MT and Idaho Falls, ID. Down to -18C/0F overnight. It might be snowy too. I'll feel better once under way. The bus is as ready as can be. New injectors and turbo on the 6V92 ;D. The plumbing is still winterized. Haven't decided if I should fill with water now, or wait till Moab...

Wish me luck. I'll post progress when I get wifi along the way.

Just talked to my son he is Moab doing the dirt bike thing. He said there are bikes everywhere. I hope you two do not meet by accident ;D.

It was about 20 f here (Helena) this am.  No snow in valley but flurries in the mountains.

try this link, goes to all MT highway cams.  If you have a block heater, plug it in to your jenny in the am, should get you going.

If its going to be cold, it will be cold in Butte.  5300 feet on the average.

Great Falls for supper. Bus running awesomely. Lots of power with new setup. Go a couple more hours toward Butte. Clear weather, dry roads, cold. Will only shut down for 4 hours, then start again.

If you don't have a block heater, I use my 500 watt halogen work light under the oil pan to warm it up in the morning before starting. Does help. Good Luck, TomC

Stayed at truck stop near Butte, MT. Cold and snowy. Up at 5 AM. Block still warm. Started easy. Have block heater and genny, but wanted to keep it quick and simple. In Moab now. Bus runs great with new injectors and turbo. Lots of torque. Really shines with cruise control. Flattens the little hills on the highway. Passing 90% of trucks up the hills. Squirrel cage gear box was wining pretty good in the cold weather. I"ll have to a least change the oil in it. Is there a drain plug, or do you have to suck it out? It was quieter later today as it got warmer. The inj are 9G90, I can't remember the turbo model. Will look it up tomorrow.

I use to worry about the shut down at night to sleep 6-7 hours when it's cold out -10 cel. but after doing this for years the old beast fires up no problem every time. I think it would take a lot of cold and wind to cool off one of these eng. after a day of driving                    dave

JC factory set up would be a TV 7512 turbo with 1.23 A/R what did you use me I would have went a little different and increased the torque ft lb from the standard  995 ft lbs @ 1200 rpm at little more rpm 1300 rpm

In coffee shop with wifi this AM while kids sleep in. Rode hard yesterday, crashed twice, bruised up and sore. Too old for this: 60 in May. Can't keep up to 18, 20 year olds any more. Jeep Jamboree here this week: town and trails packed. Turbo is TV7512, 1.23 AR, 9G90 inj at 1.46". Works well for me. I had to choose one way, and this seems the most sensible. I can feel good torque down in the 13, 1400 rpm. It will go to 15 psi boost easy. Have seen 20 a couple times under full rpm and load. I only got 8 to 10 with old set up. Oh, and no more smoke!

Got home last night. Left there Friday afternoon. 17 hour drive. Bus drives awesome. Overnight at a Flying J in McCammon, ID, just South of Pocatello. Fuel mileage average: 7.2 US, 8.6 Cnd. That is at 65 mph on cruise control most of the time. Cruise is really nice with new set up on 6V92, but of course it puts the pedal down to the floor every time there is a hill. Without it, you would only have it down part way, saving a bit of fuel. Anyway, good trip, bus is in as good a shape as it has ever been.
