Allison V730 shifter

What do you use for a v730 shifter when converting a 4106 to automatic.

I like the idea of keeping a manual shift selector.

anyone reuse the 4-d stick?

On my 40ft transit, I have a R-N-D-2-1 manual cable shifter. With the proper cable, it shifts just fine. I have some play in my shifter, but other wise works well. The shifter has to have the correct travel to coinside with the transmission detents.
Some have used a Bennett electric shifter. You eliminate the long cable, but have to run a bunch of wires. Good Luck, TomC

Mine has the Bennett electric shifter. Only problem I've ever had was when the tiny wires on the shifter loosened, tightening with star washers fixed that.

One other weird thing is if you don't park in neutral it won't start if you have no air pressure. Even though the command is electric the actual shifting is air powered.

I quickly learned to park in neutral and also found out how to move it to neutral at the trans with a screwdriver! This only happened once!

The correct shifter is important for an Allison.  We have a 647. I originally bought a shifter for a 740 thinking it would be the same, but the travel is different.  We had to buy the right shifter.  Even the shift lever where the cable attaches is different.  The one the transmission when we got it was also from a 740.  I had to drill a new hole in the right place for it to work right.  I am sure that with enough effort you could do something custom, but expect a good bit of testing to get it to work right in all gears.

Gus yours is wired wrong if wired right the Bennett will not let you shut the engine off unless it is in neutral all it takes is 2 cube relays to wire it right

That wouldn't surprise me at all since it doesn't what others say it should.

I tried to use the hill shift down to direct drive the way TomC said and mine won't even come close, I have to go all the way down to first to prevent overheating.

It also may not have the correct shifter, never even thought of that?
