I struggle with the same issues. The sled runs should take care of your need for speed.

I cranked up our 871 to 2400. went from 62 to 72 mph,, yea,,, i would like to be cranking 13, 14oo and be running 75-80 mph. yea the electronics and proprietary software to run these engines is where it is at. I want the double overdrive also.

Thanks for all the replies ,sorry I didn't get back to you sooner as we were on the road. We just came back to huntsville ont canada .Cold and snow ,had to wash off all the salt $#!% from the drive :(  Now a problem with heat yes heat ! on the drive from florida I couldnt get temp. over 140-150 f ? I had to jerry-rig my shutters to a switch on the dash and close and open manually to get the temp up to 180f . Outside temp. was as low as 19 f on fri. morning . And to top it off my electronic heat on the bus (red degital read out push botton ) so no heat out of defroster or main heater.( only worked 2 out of 10 times I tried ) , so the floor heat was not as hot as it should have bean and the propane wall heat helped to keep the front warm . Is there a manual heat unit for this bus ? IN the fall I replaced the thermostats for new 170 f ( org were only 2 years old when eng. was rebuilt) Now I installed new ones same as org. t stats could they be in backwards ? Or can they stick open ? since rebuild eng. has run cold . Frustrated as heck!

Your best bet is an 8V92 DDECIII with a WTECIII HD 6 speed transmission, as a series 60 will be too tall and too long for your chassis.

The height is OK but the length is a challenge.

Height is the problem in a Eagle the length is fine all re powers have something to work around in older buses takes a strong will  and mind to do one plus $$$$

Look at the Cummins ISL. It is available up to 450hp and 1250lb/ft torque-then you can use the shorter 3000MH Allison transmission. I would stay away from any 2 stroke engine for a repower-just not enough good mechanics left that know how to work on the 2 stroke engines. Good Luck, TomC

I know this is an old thread but very applicable so that is why I am resurrecting it.  Anyhow, would a series 50 fit into the sale cradle as the 6v92ta?

If you want your ECU reprogramed to get the 6th gear it can be done for $100.00 plus shipping.  You will need to get a cin number from one that has the same ECU with the same transmission and ship your ECU with the new number and $200.00 will get it done.

Back to the repower, I know that some don't like the series 50 engines.  I think they are great and where else can you get a good world transmission, 4 stroke engine with all the wiring and parts for four to seven thousand dollars.  If the engine blows, you can get just an engine for about $2,500.
Another for the MCI you don't have to change anything to put the engine into the coach.  The engine fits the same space as the 8v71 behind the drop down.

If you want to know where to get the ECU done give me a call 863-206-3838. no I don't do them myself.

Having a ton of money in a safe in my office, I am absolutely happy with my 350HP 6V92TA.  No four strokes in my future.

You'll also need a good sound system with robust speakers to drown out the crappy engine sound with two stroke sounds😁

The C had Cummins or Cat for a option if the radiator is on the rear there are a lot of options ,I have a buddy that is installing  a Mercedes from a FreightLiner with a 10 speed auto shift transmission in his C model in place of the 8v92 and 740 Allison

Ken  good videos on a super job. Looks like you took after our good friend Jarra.

You have the most amazing coach around.

Are you going to Blytheville this fall.  Might meet  close to BK's for a secret rally again.

Have you heard from Don lately.

Stay away from 60 or 50 series. They are both discontinued engines. In another ten or 15 years, parts will start getting scarcer. Go with something that is still being manufactured. Or buy a shell or conversion with what you want. Used conversions are going extremely cheap compared to new. The demand isn't there like the past. Old owners can't drive anymore or pass away. Younger generation isn't interested in our lifestyle and or have little or no money to support it, or their parents have no money or inheritance to receive when parents pass.Engine swaps can get expensive when you add up ALL the cost.

Chessie-you are incorrect-only the Series 50 is not made anymore, but most parts still are. Detroit Diesel doesn't make the Series 60 anymore, but the parent company of Detroit Diesel-MTU (Motoren Turbine Union) still makes the Series 60 for marine and industrial use. So parts are very much still available for the Series 60. Good Luck, TomC

Series 60 just comply to tier 2 EPA standards they are not used much in the US even on generators that was a good generator engine fwiw

I see that. Now that my sold the engine to mtu, another German company, and then it again was sold to an investment group. Boating forums say it works well up to 600 hp. Above that it starts having issues. Rebuilders did comment on insane price for parts. Here's a nice article on the 60 series for those that would like more info on that engine.

I still think one would be better off to purchase another conversion with the layout and drivetrain preferred. People always under estimate how much they will have expended in a repower, let alone the headaches involved and time expended.
Is your conversion for extensive travelling or more of a fun toy with limited use, and while you are young enough to enjoy it?
