  Hello,

I thought I might ask , would a rebuilt 8V-71T truck engine work in a bus and is there any changes that need to

be made. The reason that I ask a friend of mine would like to replace the engine in his bus.

  Thanks in advance.

No real differences between a truck and bus engine except-the bus engine typically had smaller injectors. The truck 8V-71N had 318hp and 860lb/ft torque. The Bus 8V-71 had 270hp and 730lb/ft torque. Same with 8V-71T (non aftercooled). Truck was 350hp and 930lb/ft torque. Bus is 304hp and 800lb/ft torque. Depending on if you have an automatic or manual is what you should run. Better startability with an automatic, hence larger injectors work well with the automatic. Good Luck, TomC

It depends on what brand bus it is going into. A truck engine wouldn't be usable in a bus with a crossways 8V71, they require a left hand engine. In some buses an 8V71T truck engine would require a lot of modification to work. No easy answer until you tell us what bus the engine is going into.

If it's an MCI Bus you will need a different bellhousing or you'll have to switch to a belt driven alternator in the front. Obviously, if you're pulling  it from a truck with a manual transmission and putting it in a bus with an automatic you'll need a flex plate and quite possibly a different bellhousing as well

Read my project page on military engines to see what some of the issues might be, if it's an MCI bus.
