Electric baseboard heat

Hi Guys:  I am thinking about installing some electric baseboard heating units in the bus.  I only intend to use them when parked at a camp ground, my thinking is I have already payed for the electricity usage, why burn up my propane.  Am I thinking clearly here, or am I totally out of line?  Would the heaters draw to much amperage?

Why not use a 1500 watt cube heater when you need it.But I have thought about a wall convection towel heater.              dave

Mike, we also use cheap, portable electric heaters when there is power.  One 1500 watt heater uses about 12.5 amps, so you can run 2 on a 30 amp service with some space left for small loads.  The frig or microwave could put it over the top though so some power management may be called for.

Like others, we are using the 1500 watt portable heaters.

Cheap and puts the heat where you want it.

Easily replaced 24/7 at any Wally World!

The portable heaters are best and the cheapest way to go. The big advantage is you can direct the heat where you want rather than heat the whole space as the baseboard heat will.

However, any electric resistance heater takes a pile of amps so you are limited there.

I installed toe kick heaters 750/1500 watts forced air under the cabinet type they worked good and never where a problem and wasn't a problem with storage or cords they were permanent mounted under the cabinets jmo that is the way I would go

Electric heat is electric heat.  It doesn't matter what is is, a 1500 watt heater will put out the same amount of heat as any other.

Toe kicks are convenient and take up little space.  One major caution is that being down on the floor, they suck in a lot of dirt which can become a fire hazard.  I would open them up and clean them out at least once a year.

Thanks for all the info.  We have a couple of handicapped lady's we care for and space heaters in the isles create a tripping hazard that we would like to avoid, so the baseboard heaters are probably the better choice for us.

They do sound like the best choice in this case.  Did you find a particular model that would work best?  Any links you can send? 

Also, I would echo what Len said.  I believe there was a major fire on one of our member's bus a few years back caused by dirt & dust as Len described.

I always bought the Perfectoe toe kick heater same as Dick Wright sells they are not bad about getting lent into same heater most of the Prevost converters use a little pricy but they work good

The little cube space heaters are what causes the most fires for a heater that is what caused Richards (Driving Mrs Lazy) and I think Eagles (JCB) also

I ended up ordering one from Home Depot.  Went to the store, but they only stocked the 240 vote, so I ordered one of the 120 volts.  According to the specs. one 4 foot model should be enough to heat the bedroom.  I like the idea of the under cabinets units, I will be considering those when I get to that point.
