Air Compressor Source / Questions

Hey Guys,

My next maintenance item is my engine air compressor. It pumping a fair amount of oil into the reservoir so it is time for replacement. The current compressor is a Bendix Tu Flo 600.

I have an 8v71 in my 4106, and looks like there are many different configurations of these compressors....so what do I ask for at the parts desk?

Also where is a good source? Should I order online or can the local Car Quest get one for me?

I am currently in Bishop CA and will be heading to Vegas next week. I could wait until I get to Vegas but would prefer to take care of it now.

The right flange and tilt is all there is get the numbers off the old one it will match and if you have the old fiber gear drive change it also,check the air intake before you change it out they pump oil with a bad air filter

Assuming that I can get the compressor locally, is the gear drive difficult to come by?

I pulled the compressor intake apart last month and it was very clean with no blockages. My air filter looked good as well.

Steve,the drive if you need one a DD will have it there are just a few different models,check with Brake Systems in Portland 503-236-2116 sometimes they will sell a you new Midland/Haldex compressor for about the same price as a rebuilt Bendix nothing wrong with a Midland they make good compressors

Yeah, like Clifford says, you have to be careful of those drive parts. They're made to break if the compressor locks up so that the expensive drive gears inside the engine don't get wrecked but the problem is that they "fret" and wear and get brittle after use and age. Unless you're very sure that the one you have is the latest type and in good shape, get a new one.
