While the arrival of the BCM mag via e-mail was cause for celebration...

By copying all of our e-mail addresses into the "To" section of the mass e-mail, you have exposed all of us to any one of the listed busnuts being hacked or infiltrated and having our addresses harvested.

This is no light matter.

Please brush up your internet and e-mail security procedures moving forward.

Put us all in the BCC, out of sight, and out of harm's way.

And you use no protection against that?

Interesting that the first to holler is the one that was in charge of security on another board and let all of those people down.

Good Job!

Dallas.

What is the purpose of your post?

Do you wish to diminish the importance of the issue I've raised?

Or further diminish your own credibility?

Apples and Oranges.

But you already knew that before posting.

happy coaching!

There's always a constructive way to address issues. Then there's BS that's intended to inflame. Seems like a flamefest waiting to happen here. Hope the moderators know that we appreciate the time they take to keep this site up. What a thankless job.

I will drive my Detroit hard... I will drive my Detroit hard.

Actually to call someone to task in front of the whole board isn't the best either.
buswarrior I'm sure you could have handled it a much straighter fashion such as a email to Kelly.

Snow disappeared......Now where did I put that bus?

I sent her an email with the link to this post. Hopefully she will respond with her take on the issue.

I'm sure all of us have made the same mistake along the way, I know I have. Hopefully nothing will happen. I use gmail and it does a pretty good job of not letting spammers cause any harm.

I haven't had the opportunity to see the mag yet, but am looking forward to it being made available to the bus nut community! 8)

Thanks to Kellie and the new owner!

To say that I deeply regret and feel horrible about the mistake I made would be a complete understatement. The last thing I would ever want to do is jeopardize anyone's security in any way.  I know there is nothing I can do now to reverse the problem. I am very sorry and can assure you this will not happen again.  Please accept my apologies.

Jeremy

No need to beat yourself up too much - it's an easy mistake to make, and - with luck - no harm done and something learnt. If it makes you feel any better, a salesman from professional email marketing company once contacted me (by email), trying to promote his company's services and, unbelievably, he'd did exactly the same thing. That salesman got very short shrift from me that day.

The worst thing of course is when the problem gets compounded because some of the recipients don't know the difference between 'Reply' and 'Reply All'. It can go on forever then.

A shameless plug for my business - visit www.magazineexchange.co.uk for back issue magazines - thousands of titles covering cars, motorbikes, aircraft, railways, boats, modelling etc. You'll find lots of interest, although not much covering American buses sadly.

I don't know how well it would work on a large scale mailing, but I use "Send Personally" from Mapilab
http://www.mapilab.com/outlook/send_personally/

It sends an individual email from an Outlook group and I have been very pleased with it's performance.  I think it's about $24.00.

I must be missing something??? Heck, I;m tickled S****less just to get an issue. I always have protection for my stuff!!LOL

Most email programs protect against this by putting such emails into spam/junk folders.

Also a decent firewall will probably protect against it.

A lot of todo about nothing!
