RV window source

Hi everyone.  I am looking to put an RV window in my bathroom and possibly in the bunks as well.  Does anyone know of a good source for windows that are made to work with the wall thickness of a buss?  I am planning on my wall thickness to be 2 9/16 inches thick.  I have been watching ebay for a while, but most listed their are for thinner walls, or do not come with the screens or a trim ring.  Does anyone know of a trick to make the windows designed for thinner walls work on our buses?

Motion windows in Vancouver Washington. Lots of people have used them. I just recently got a quote for modifying my Prevost side windows so they can be opened. The price has me taking a step back, but someday. HTH Will

The trim ring is not that important use sikaflex or rivets install the window on the outside and trim the inside with wood or laminates the Prevost converters did it for years

Check the surplus and rv salvage stores in your area people buy those from 25 bucks up 

What part of the US do you live? someone here will have a source a rv type that thick is going to be tough to find

I just got a quote from Motion Windows/Peninsula Glass.  It was 2700 for 4 full size bus windows (RV style) and that included shipping.  An RV repair place here in wilmington had some old windows lying around for about 100- 200 a piece.  They told me that new the windows would run about 800 a piece installed which was what I have been finding.  If you are not looking for something specific, hunt around a junk yard, RV repair shop or truck repair and see what they have lying around.  If you weld or know someone who does, I would suggest framing out the window.

I got a similar quote for new (yikes)  and decided to take a chance on ebay.
i got insulated (doublepane), medium tint for 2.5 inch walls with trim strip for $60 each plus shipping.
from tri state surplus in hudson michigan.  I also got a matching egress window to go with them.
my only complaint is they were described as new but definately werent and they didnt describe the locatiin of the weep holes.   Had to make new weep holes.
Btw you pretty much have to call them.  Not everything they have is on ebay.

Hi Mike, this may seem out of left field, I have two skylight fans in the toilet, no windows. One has exhaust fan, the other over the shower I'm going to replace with a bi-directional fantastic fan. Previous class As had window either behind toilet or across from it, on a couple occasions, wife at the time was embarrassed by shower or other usage in bathroom with window open, FWIW, lvmci...

I stopped an got an estimate at motion windows and decided that I did not need windows or the original bus windows were just fine.

On my way back to NY I stopped in Elkhart IN and bought several new tinted thermopane windows for $25 each, big and small windows.

1-2 years later I am ready to install windows and realize that I have no trim rings! 

  Jack Conrad told me to use butyl rubber tape and screw the windows to the skin.  I had framed the inside with wood, in hindsight I would have done a very neat careful job of cutting the wood fram as it ended up an appearance item! I had chopped it up pretty badly cutting the window openings, flat black paint would not hide it.

I made oak trim inside for the windows. There is a channel around the window to accept the trim ring, I copied this on the oak frame routed a thin line around the frame and cut formica to fit around the window. Kept me busy and frustrated for several days.

Looked nice when I was done, but the careful cutting and finishing of the wood frame would have been the best way to go.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. I am planning on keeping most of the original bus windows, at least for now.  But in the bathroom and bunks I was looking for a much smaller window.  I like of idea of trimming out the windows with wood. I was not sure if this could be done, as I have no experience in this area, but it sounds like something I can handle.

 tip for trim rings i got my windows with out trim rings also.  i got trim rings from a junk yard and cut them down to fit some 2 cuts others 4 cuts a fresh coat of black paint and you cant tell unless you known or
are looking hard  john

I used nighttime accordion shades on my 4104 and they work fine, privacy and darkness when needed.

Much cheaper than new windows and you get to keep the neat old bus appearance.

Love my Motion windows and could not be happier with the quality of the craftsmanship and window. I too looked at the local/ebay options before I finally pulled the trigger. I was primarily worried about water leaks as many buses develop mold after one good leak. Will be leaving in late October to pick up my last Motion window for the bathroom.

Good luck, just wanted to give you my experience with the vendor!
