Yesterday, climbed the southbound I-5 Grapevine.  It is 6% for 5 miles, was 100 degrees. I let the bus come down and shifted to 2nd (V730 with 4.56).  Maintained 45 mph (by GPS) at about 1950rpm. When I turned on the misters, it was at 195 degrees, by the top of the hill was down at 180.  Really works-but dumps a lot of water with two misters drilled out to 1/16".  I'd rather have a larger radiator if it fit, but nice to have the misters rather then having to stop.  Good Luck, TomC

Sounds like the misters really do the job! a good trade a few gallons of water for a cooler running engine, water is cheap, hope you had a good trip Tom.

I agree the misters sound like the cat's pajamas, but I have this whole other theory - if it's 100 degrees out, don't go outside, stay inside, close the curtains so it's dark, and have some appropriate entertainment and beverages on hand until the heat goes away...  $300 for my AC bill at home last month.

You can drill out your patio misters, or just install adjustable sprayers from a garden drip system.  I have installed several spray systems in buses and have had great feedback.  That is what I use in my bus.

Hey Tom C and Geoff,

I have no idea what my water usage is since I have it plumbed into my house water system.  I just have a 12v solenoid that with a dash switch.  I know that on a hot day, I can go through about 1/4 tank of water (130gal water tank) which works out to be about 30 gal.  Good luck, TomC

My radiator spray water usuage depends on what I am towing.  When I moved from SF Bay Area to Prescott, AZ I towed an overloaded 20' box trailer and I could use up all my 100 gallons of house water in a one way 800 mile trip.  But I had to climb several mountain ranges.  That would work out to 8 mpg.  At least water is cheap!

If I am not towing I rarely use the radiator srayer.

When I installed the masters,  the thought was that I could use it in spurts of 10 - 20 seconds.   I put them on a spring loaded toggle so I would not forget to shut them off.   It seems that I will need longer bursts to work best though.  Some other switch arrangement may be in order next summer.

Does anybody have Mister Plans for installation in a MCI9 BUS?

I agree with Geoff, he put garden misters on my MCI7 with a 8V92 and Allison 740 auto and what a difference. Now when it gets to 180 I turn on the misters and watch the temp sit there and then go down. I normally tow a 20 boat or 24 foot trailer. The misters made all the difference in weither I could climb out of the Verde Valley Arizona without overheating.
A big thanks to Geoff for taking care of my heating problem
