Do you happen to have contact information, because I could use one or two of those for a project I am working on.

Granted $190.00 is cheap for a 4 cylinder Onan air cooled Diesel engine new out of the crate. BUT- I have the 2 cylinder version at home for standby power for 6kw of power and even with Vac-u-flo cooling (where the air is sucked over the engine then blown out of the compartment [I have a 10" duct]) and even in an insulated cabinet, it is LOUD!  You can here the engine running 75ft away on the street and the genset is in the back yard.
For those that need an engine for standby power at the house, or to run a welding genset, or air compressor, or even a pump, this would be a good engine.  But I think it is too noisy for a genset in a bus.  Good Luck, TomC

The DJC engine family was quite  dependable as a prime mover for 1800 RPM generators.
However, not having looked at the auction information, finding the shielding for cooling might be a problem. Generator ends for these old units are getting rarer to find than hens' teeth. No one that I know is able to work on the Bosch pumps they came equipped with anymore.

So, there's the caveat. I cannot remember any of the 'J' engines built after the late '70's.

I had the same experience with an air cooled gas Onan 5.5 genset in my 4104. It was loud, shaky and got unbelievably hot, plus it weighed over 5000lbs.

I removed it and replaced it with a nice quiet, liquid cooled Honda 6KW made for RVs even though it cost me slightly over $4000. Unfortunately Honda no longer makes them but it is now busy working away in my 4107.

This particular diesel engine is used on the military 10 kw air cooled Mep 003 generator. We had them in the National Guard unit I belong to, very noisy. They had no mufflers just direct exhaust, maybe with a muffler system you might quiet them down a bit. The starting bid is $190. Once in a while the complete generator ends are on the site new in boxes. There are some complete generators on the site with the acoustical suppression enclosures on them already.

It appears that each lot is actually for two engines?  Interesting.  Will be curious to see how prices spike at the end of the auction.  For a couple hundred apiece, I can think of all sorts of uses for those.  Large water pump to get liquid from my pond to my pasture comes to mind at the moment...

Well, yeah, it was heavy, but only 500lbs, not 5000!!
