Questions, questions, and more questions.
Hello to all,
I have just purchased a 64 Gm and have some questions.
1. Where is the VIN plate?
2. Where is the Brake light switch as i am having a no brake light issue at the moment.
3. Will a service manual help with wire diagrams? This bus is already converted but i will have to
do some changes, repairs and upgrades.

Have many more in the future. :)

Thank you in advance for any help that you can give me.

Welcome - we bought out 4106 a year ago this week, and LOVE it!

The VIN can also be found stamped in the outdoor compartment under the driver's seat. It'll be PD4106xxxx (xxxx = your serial number).

And we definitely recommend finding all of the manuals for the bus.. they are most excellently done, and have been very helpful to us in our journey!

Best wishes,
- Cherie

Tom,

The VIN plate was originally attached to the passenger side dash panel. It's not uncommon for it to be covered up or removed by converters. As indicated by Tom and Cherie, the number is also stamped on the frame member in the tool compartment located below the driver's seat.

The brake light switch is mounted on top of the rear brake relay valve which is mounted on the bulkhead in directly front of the rear axle.

The maintenance manual does contain wiring diagrams that will cover the original chassis and engine controls. Won't help much with the conversion stuff.

Welcome to the madness.

Tom -

Congrats, a fine machine.  A picture of the S/N stamping Bob's referring to is in this post - scroll down a bit, then look at the third picture to get an idea.

Tom -

Welcome to the madness!

Please take a moment the next time you're surfing around this BBS to update your profile, using the tab above.  If you include your name, home city/state and bus make/model in your signature, that will go a long way in helping us help you.  No sense us suggesting a place to get tires in CA if you live in FL, for example.  Plus you might discover another busnut in your own neighborhood that you can swap lies, er, stories with.

The 4106 is a great bus.  GMC probably would have built more, but the move to 40-footers was what killed it.  (That and Greyhound buying this little bus manufacturer in Winnipeg. . .)

Once you find the VIN, post it here and I'll let you know who originally purchased it from GMC.

Operator's Manual, Maintenance Manual, Maintenance Manual Supplement, Parts Book and Detroit Diesel Maintenance Manual are the five books you should strive to have in your coach's library.

Take a bunch of pics of your new toy, post them to Photobucket, then share with us the link - we all love "bus porn!"

Again, welcome aboard!
