If a person had the ability to do the work and had a 3406 at his disposal is it possible to install in an 85 eagle. It has a HT747 trans. Could someone tell me what I would have to do and an estimate of the cost. I dont have the correct bell houseing the trans is a 13spd roadranger on the cat at this time.

Its possible, anything is. You can talk to southern oregon diesel, they have done at least one very nicely for their owner. don't remember his name. I have a good spare 400 cummins I'd love to have in my NJT 20 Eagle. Spoke with him a couple months ago and he stated it was just to much work and to much money didn't sound interested anymore, but I know that he will talk to you. His was awesome.

$1M in $1000 bills = 8 inches high.
$1B in $1000 bills = 800 feet high.
$1T in $1000 bills = 142 miles high

You need to talk to Sonny Gray (Catskinner).  His bus is the centerfold in MAK's BCM Magazine (Jan 2007).  He is probably in Arcadia right now and away from the board, but he'll be back.  You won't believe how much he did to his Eagle to put that Cat in it, but it sure does look good.

I read the article in BCM. Sounds like he had to do alot of extra work to go from a manual to an automatic trans. Also he wanted a differant gear in the rear end. Hope he reads my post and gives me a response. Thanks, this board is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Andy its not any harder to put the 3406 in a Eagle than a cummins or 60s dd you don't have to move the bogie like Sonny did but he wanted a higher gear than you can put in a Eagle. Gary at B&B in Vegas has installed them he can give some information. After all the pricing of installing a different engine i stayed with my 8v92

Considering that the mileage difference may be as much as 2 mpg, I'd just stay with the 8V-82TA.  It is a perfect bus engine and will give you many years of faithful service with performance you will like.  Unless you'll be driving over 250,000 miles, then the swap maybe worth it.  Good Luck, TomC
