First off hi to everyone , its been a while, but im still around, been busy with the holidays and caring for my sister........hope you all have had a nice holiday season......for those that dont know I own a 1975 Flx transit, full
conversion. I am in search of windshield rubbers. I was given the
name of a gentleman, and told he was a guru when it came to FLXIBLES,
but the number I was given is no longer good. DOes anyone know
Richard Dutton and a way to get ahold of him OR have access to
windshield rubbers? especially the 2 small ones on the front "side"?

Update on my bus, the transmission is replaced , in and it is MOVING again!!!!!!   so im over the heartwrenching pain of the cost.well, mostly.......have been having some other things done as well, and working on the inside a bit as i can......front wheel bearings and greased rearend etcetc.........learning alot as i go and really grateful for the mechanic i am near, he is a life savor......next is the Jake brake installation, i decided it was a smart move, safety first is my thing, and even if it is overkill, i figure ya cant be too safe...and my insearch of now is :::windshield rubbers, and a tow bar set up:::: for my ford escort zx2 2001, still dont feel comfortable with the info i found seems stow master is the most favored, but not sure about EXACT to get.....and every one is vague, including ford on the trans axel thing i posted on here before, for towing 4 down.......

My other 2 HAVE TO DOS are figuring out if a rack on top is a good idea, and where, and how to go about for more storage.....I also want solar panels, and my BIGGEST MYSTERY now is my battery set up.  I have little knowledge and many questions..........so bear with me onthat ok?  I dont like the way the house and starting are hooked together, and really need someone to get in there and get it set right.  ANy thoughts on anyone in the Lake Havasu AZ area for that sort of specialty?

More to come..............

I am in currently in AZ and will try to make it to .Quartzite as well,
but am unsure on best time to go .thoughts? Thanx for any help you
can give

and happy new year!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Best time to go to Q is January or early Feb.  There will be lots of solar types there - pick their brains before you do anything.  I bought a used towbar from the towbar guy there.  Don't know what his name is but you'll know him when you see him.  His wife sells knick knacks in the front of the tent and he has this great honking big pile of used towbars in the back of the tent.  They are on the north side of the interstate - I'm never sure what each event is called but they are kind of north of the MacDonalds - whatever that area is called.

Go talk to Paul at Lightning Batteries at 2000 W. Acoma Blvd.  for wiring problems/changes......did some work for me a couple of years ago and i was very happy with him.  Also he likes a challenge. :)
Used to own a 1968 MCI 5A and a 1977 5C.

The tow bar guy is now at tyson wells show South of Interstate 10 everything has been changing hands here left and right. The Town Manager is trying to run snow birds out of Quartzsite and so far we have lost a lot of the dealers as just can't afford it anymore.

He wants to make it the next Palm Springs I thinks he is smoking whacky tobacco.

Kbunny the last 2 weeks of January are usually the best as all the dealers and reps will be here then.

If Quartzite is not that far for you, might want to go during the RV show.  The dates are
Jan 20 thru Jan 28.  Lots of towing vendors, solar people and displays galor. I
plan on going Jan 26 thru 28.  If you abring your coach, Rice ranch is a good choice.
                                 Good luck,   Merle.

Ford Escorts are Front Wheel drive cars as far as I know, at least every one I have seen is that way. The Manual transmission should be acceptable to tow 4-down , The worst case might be that you could let the engine idle in neutral while towing, Many people have done that with automatic transmission cars and trucks without major problems. Or call REMCO and ask them about their driveline disconnects for front wheel drive cars or the lube pump system.

You are aware that you will have to leave a key in the ignition of the car to leave the steering wheel unlocked when towing so the tires will follow properly? Also you will not be able to back up the bus with the car attached towing 4-down, Only a dolly will allow that to a limited extent and will be hard to handle but easy on the car. Dollies are around for $500 and up and all you need for the bus is a trailer hitch and lights.

For you it sounds like the dolly would be a better way to go with your car and if you had a hitch put on the car it could pull the dolly when needed.( while not being towed by the bus of course. ) :-\

If you are going to install solar on the roof then you may want to rethink the roof rack platform idea a little. Look around for anyone that has one of the older BlueBird Wanderlodges, They came with a full roof rail and rack with storage carriers on the roof and a ladder to get up there. You may get some ideas from that. ( I think it's "Vintage Birds" club that has a lot of members with the older and unique ones. )

Anyway, that's my 2-cents worth, Good Luck and glad you can drive the bus again.....

Dave....

Never take a knife to a gunfight!

thanx forthe thoughts and reply :)  why do you think the dolly would be better for me?  i was thinkin it would be a pain to have to deal with it where with a tow bar it stays mounted on bus or car.....i need all the thoughts i can get ;)

Hello kbunny

Figure out how to tow 4 down. Tow dolly is another "vehicle" to deal with.

Even if you have to trade and get another car that is suitable, do it.

Come on folks, can she tow that Ford or not? Goofs at dealerships can't be trusted, and they won't help her.

happy coaching!
