Heather and I will be in Wisconsin this summer on tour and have a few places with water and power that we can park the coach but no sewer. I've googled lots about septic pump out services but haven't seen anyone discuss prices or of septic companies even do this. Could I pay a truck that pumps porta potties to pump us once every couple of weeks? Any reason not to do this?

Ask Sean welsh,he has some great ideas on poop pumping. Do you have a macerateor?
If so you could get 100feet or so of  3/4 garden hose and pump it out to a close home or a sewer  pipe.

Most charge $10 around here.  when they are passing by. This is the ones that service porta potties like at construction sites. They have a 5 gallon bucket they put your discharge hose & theirs in and suck it up.  Why the bucket? Chance of collapsing your tank. slight risk I know but it's there. Not worth it. their vaccum is powerful.   Bob

You'll find most state parks, truck stops, and campgrounds have a pay for use. However we've tried contacting our local honey dipper for when we extended stay on our property, they claim their trucks are ill equipped for such things. Who know in Wisconsin ... Your the google man get on it ! ;D

Have fun !

I had it done while staying at a friends.   It was free to me so no cost idea.   He simply put his hose over my hose and opened the valve.

He asked me if my vent system was functioning properly as he was not responsible for collapsing my tank!   Bucket seems like a disgusting but good idea.  Use his bucket ;D JIm

Improperly installed macerateors have a tendency to remove the liquid from the tank and leave the solids.

I've seen it done with the bucket method.  It was gross but a much better alternative to collapsed tanks.  Have your own bucket just in case he doesn't.  If it is to nasty for you to clean up throw the bucket away and get a new one for next time.  they are not that expensive.

Ah the ideas. Call the vac truck out. Dump into a watering trough (from a farm supply store), then let him vac out of there.

We carry 100 black water and 175 grey, so it would take a while to dump with a small bucket ;)

I emptied a couple of bucketfuls from my travel trailer tank once and that was really nasty.  I don't think there was any #2 and it still stunk to high heaven.  I took the buckets inside the house and dumped them in the toilet.  I guess I was too lazy to hook up and pull the trailer over to my personal dump station in my front yard.

Interesting. I've heard of the collapsed tanks scenario, so would be more than happy to unscrew the 8 inch lid on my tank and that plus the 2 inch vent will allow enough air to prevent such an occurrence. In any case, we are sitting for two months and wanted some thoughts on this method. The place we will be staying may be free so dealing with the black goo may be our only expense. Thanks for the ideas...I'll call the septic guy. For what it's worth though, for any of you you haven't yet been forced to smell the full intensity of your black tank...you have no idea how intense it is....no idea at all.  :o

Many locations have "cleanout" plugs (a way to access sewer line so that they can be rodded out if clogged).  It may be easier to find a place to dump than you think.  Look for a 4" diameter plastic plug with a 1 to 1 1/2" square or hex sticking up on the top of it; these are usually at ground level and often at or near the foundation of a house or other building.  Open that up and you can (safely and legally) drain your tanks into it.  There may be more of a chance to drain than you know at that location.

The bucket deal works. the sucker truck is so quick there is never any accumulation in the bucket as fast as your hose can run.  Like Andy said we do it all the time at tractor shows.  Bob

That must be quite the sucker...man alive! Don't get caught on the business end of that hose...you'll have a reverse bruise the size of Alaska. Mercy. Bruce, I actually am currently using one of those cleanouts to dump. It was where I was given permission here in FL. But not sure if I'll get that in Wisconsin. Working on arrangements, but just wanted to get some opinions. I'll keep my eyes open for those cleanouts in Wisconsin though...they work well...been using one for our 7month tour here in Florida.

I'm glad to hear that the clean-outs work well as a "dump station."  My parking location will be somewhat remote, so for black tank dump, I was thinking about using the clean-out at my office building -- very easy to reach on the weekend, and only about 5-6 miles from where I'll usually be parked/stored.  I can handle grey water on-site pretty easily, but black is another matter.  I just have nightmare images of it backing up into the office building or something.    :o

Cheers, John

You could always have somebody inside holding the toilet flapper valve open for more air to get into the tank while pumping out. :)

I have a 4" clean out in my yard that I use for dumping at home.  I use a Sewer Solution because it is about 25 feet from the driveway.

A Sewer Solution or a macerator pump can be good option for dumping.  You can even pump into a toilet as a last resort.
