Okay, dumb newbie question here.  Is the engine compartment the main place fires start?  If so, why don't they all have fire supression systems like my mustang?  A system is only like 500 bucks.  Criminy, I looked at those bigfoot jacks the aussie lella was looking for and they were 5 grand just so you don't have to put blocks under your tires when you park.  Am I missing something here?

Folks, go wander around your local transit company, or charter coach company.

Fire suppression systems are popularly installed in the engine rooms, and have been for some time.

Everything bought here in pretty much the last decade by both Big Transit and the Big Line Haul/Charter company has had them installed. So both public and private companies see their worth in protecting expensive assets.

Natural gas buses from the late 1980's had them!

Some metal piping around the perimeter, a few spray nozzles aimed at the smart places, a large extinguisher bottle mounted in one of the rear corners behind the tail lights, a string of wire looped around to burn through as a trigger, along with some sensors aimed at smart places, and a manual trigger and status control box up near the driver.

Get hold of Jim S on this board, he sells lots of good stuff to calm your fears.

happy coaching!
