Occasional Throttle Problem

When I first start out, there is no problem, then sometimes, after about 30 minutes using the throttle, the engine drops to idle. (On cruise, there is no problem; I can go for hours.)

After a few seconds, I get control back (whether I move the pedal or not), and am able to go again, but it fails again later and that is becoming more frequent.

I am running 8V92, with a potentiometer as throttle control, and that has been replaced.

I am running DDEC1, so I am wondering if there is any other component to check, or am I losing the ECM and will I have to replace that?

What are my options/your thoughts?

I am concerned about setting out on a long trip, not knowing if I will get stranded. If it fails completely, I am in real trouble.

Check your plugs for tightness.  When a plug gets hot it can expand and loose contact-hence loss of pedal.   Good Luck, TomC

Bad area  for dampness and little dirt. clean and use diaelectric grease on plug.    or wiggle it  all else is long term maintance.

I had the same problem while traveling with my DDEC III.   The DD dealer could not identify the problem but changed the throttle control at the pedal as that was the most likely cause of the problem.   The problem was corrected.  It may of been the connection.

Bob is right about connections.   I have had other connection problems.   I corrected them by disconnecting the plugs at the ECM, spraying LIGHTLY with contact cleaner, and applying a very small amount dielectric grease.
