Trivial Wheel Cover Issue

I have stainless steel wheel covers in the front wheels.  Through years of wear, they have become lose around the lugs enough to shake and chatter as we go down the road.  I understand that I can remove them and buy new ones, but has anyone dealt with a similar issue in a way that gave them a couple of hundred thousand miles more before replacement?

use washers over the cover, and under the nut, If you can not find them make them.........
