I tried with my $600 dollar Hp set up it was awkard at best. page did not fit screen. was difficult to read. Found it difficult to read down one column then go up to top of next. Both showed on screen and was confusing. whole page did not fit on screen.  So how much would I need to spend in order to read BCM.  I do not have a 30 inch monitor. Just a hp laptop.  Bob

Come on, Clifford. You told us months ago you were getting a MAC. I told you that you would need two of them. Are you still on a Dell? You can NOT mix light with darkness! If your Dell has any issues, that simply means it has seen the light and wants to retire. You will HAVE to get an Apple now....Sorry to break the news.

I will be buying my own Christmas present this year I can assure you of that lol I love the Apple

I spend 12 hours a day at the computer. I cannot imagine working off of a laptop screen on a regular basis. Most laptops have an external monitor connection that will let you hook up a big monitor while you're using it at a desk. (And an external keyboard, mouse, etc., if you like). When it's time to go on the road, you can disconnect and go back to the little bitty monitor. 23" monitors are widely available for under $150.

If you want to get fancy, you can usually use BOTH the external big monitor and the little bitty laptop monitor at the same time. Nice to keep a PDF up on one and a web browser on the other, for example.

JBN,

You are right on. I use my laptop all the time. However, I have two external 24" flatscreen monitors that I use all the time also (I even have one for the bus). Problem is, with my work, I am maxing out my two monitors, so I will be getting a third (looking at a 27" ;D).

All that aside, Bob, the other monitors aren't that much. If you want a bigger screen, it isn't hard at all to setup. That said, when I am on the road I use my laptop all the time. I do like to stay at hotels that have flatscreen TVs. I don't watch TV, but they sure make a nice monitor. LOL

My two 23"ers are definitely maxed out. Unfortunately, they max out my desk. I envy your possible third. I use one for my web browser, and the other is split between IM and terminals. Office applications have to move back and forth. If I had a third, I'd probably split it between a browser window for email and office applications. My wife got a 24" monitor for her birthday. I suspect it's just a matter of time before she wants one to match it.

I've been told that somewhere between 23 and 30" is a point at which you don't get much added value from the size in an office environment. I don't know where that point is. And frankly, I'm not sure I believe that it actually exists.  ;D

Justin,

Don't loose heart on your monitors. Eventually I will probably add two more. My three will be in a half circle right next to each other, then I will probably build a stand and put a fourth one right above the monitor right in front of me. That way I can have my email open all the time, with my CAD software on the other monitors. Ahh, the possibilities are endless.

Or, to make this bus related, you could have the BCM open on the other screen ;D.

 Hello:
Just bought an iMac and an iPad.   The iMac has the  21.5 inch screen and the iPad is the bigger one with 3G verizen.     We bit the bullet when the gateway and dell went south.  We plan to use the pad on the road next year when the big trip takes place..  Alaska bound..    Anyway The iMac is neat.  We are on the learning curve. They offer a" one on one"  all you need instructions for one year for 99 dollars.. The downside for us is the nearest store is altamonte springs  (orlando) which is 100 miles  but so far its working out well. Best of all they have a deal with Barclays card;  12 months no interest if you pay it off.
By the way any   online magazine works real well with the mac.

I've just looked at the page-flipper with my fancy new Galaxy Tab 10.1 (top-end Android iPad2). I was expecting to report that BCM looked great on it, but actually it was pretty crappy - the page-flipper software obviously hasn't been optimised for mobile - the controls were fiddly to use and there was something wrong with how it was rendering the text too.

So I then looked at a magazine that had been flipperized using different software (Issuu's as it happens, but I didn't pick theirs for any particular reason), and the experience was far better. So the concept for BCM is fine, but the execution needs some tweaking yet.

A shameless plug for my business - visit www.magazineexchange.co.uk for back issue magazines - thousands of titles covering cars, motorbikes, aircraft, railways, boats, modelling etc. You'll find lots of interest, although not much covering American buses sadly.
