WOW.. AAA comes threw when I needed them

I have had AAA for many years and have only used them with my small cars and trucks.. well this weekend we took a trip and blew a Tag axle tire and decided to see what AAA would do.. ( yes I do have AAA RV Plus )

I caled told them what I have and asked that the driver call me before he comes to make sure he knew what he was coming to fix.. the driver called within 15 mins and was a big truck repair guy.. Knew what an MCI was and was said he would be there within 20 mins.

driver showed up in 40 mins of being called and we were back on the road within 1hr 45mins after making first called to AAA.. of course I did have 3 spare tires with me so all he had to do was un bolt the blown tire and swap tires on rim and put it back on bus..

so for my first big issue on the road with bus I am happy to say AAA came threw for me..

this is on the way there..

good news is we got it fixed and made it there and home

When I got home I did look threw all my tools and I found I have the correct socket to remove the lugs and a large bottle jack and a air compressor for bus.. I just need to get a very large impact gun and some tire spoons and I can do it myself next time

Was nice being able to watch someone actually do it so I now know how

Good tire guys change the tire without removing the wheel that one I cannot do and I have tried

Clifford FWIW I have never seen any good enough to do a "steer" side on the vehicle.
Most any of them with some experience can do the outside drive!

I have all the tools & yer welcome to come borrow them anytime you want to try it. Those tire jockeys sure make it easier than it is!

I used to think I wanted to do them & save the $! Now I pay to have it done and gladly pay it.

What size are those lug nuts, anyhow? I keep meaning to check and my feeble mind won't remember to do it!

Outer nuts are 1.5" and the inner nut (or thimble nut some call it) are 3/4" square!

OH yeah they make sockets that have the 3/4 square in the 1.5", but I don't like those!
I have had a long inner nut stick out enough to just catch the 3/4" while was still removing the outer nut and it tore the head of the inner nut off!

I now use a deep 1.5" without the 3/4" part in it and have a separate 3'4" just for that purpose.

I see your problem now-those rusted lug nut covers had to be the reason the tire blew (LOL). Good Luck, TomC

I got a set of sockets from Harbor Freight that included the Budd socket. In this set if I remember correctly the 3/4 was separate from the 1.5 socket. Makes life a lot easier I think.

We also have AAA plus. On our way to Lake Powell last year just 40 miles from home we blew the engine in our MCI 7. Called AAA and they sent a big wrecker who knew what he was doing. He hooked us up and took us to Chino Valley, AZ from Camp Verde, AZ to Geoff garage at about 9 PM. This company charged by the hour, $165 and total time portal to portal was 12 hours. Since we were within 100 miles of where we had to be towed it was all covered by AAA. Have also used them when we blew a outside dual close to Santa Fe, NM. Sure is nice when you have trouble and one of those big wreckers come to help and take care of you all you have to do is show your card and all is well.

So this is a great recommendation for AAA but what are your thoughts on Good Sam emergency service? $80 per year...covers unlimited miles for an emergency tow....
